A taste of Barbados has come to London as Mount Gay Rum has transformed Camden Roundhouse’s terrace into a buzzy, all-day hangout. Fleur Rollet-Manus checks it out.

The landmark venue in North London has been getting the party started ever since Pink Floyd flung open their doors in 1966. Now as our summer keeps on getting hotter, the new rooftop hangout gives us another excuse to wind down al-fresco. After all, sun’s out, rums out…

Roundhouse regulars will recognise the spot as the former Camden Beach, but the guys at Mount Gay have shown us that sand isn’t a necessity this summer. Besides, the boozy Mai Tai’s slip down way easier than finding an empty deckchair on Bournemouth Beach.

Pair their signature Black Storm cocktail, a fiery Mount Gay Black Barrel, Ginger Ale and tangy orange wedge concoction, with a competitive game of Dominoes, some serial-tanning and a laid back Reggae soundtrack.

Feeling peckish? Snack on Barbadian inspired street food dishes such as staple jerk chicken, rice and peas, jerk pineapple, curried mutton and jerk and pimento-dusted fries. Then, burn it all off with a game of road tennis on the manicured strip of lawn. Twinkling fairy lights provide the perfect summer selfie backdrop.

Laze, gaze and release your inner RihRih until the 26th August.

The Barbados Terrace by Mount Gay will be closing 26th August, and is open Tuesday – Friday from 5pm-11pm and Saturday to Sunday from 12pm-11pm.
