The ultimate luxury location for a getaway with a difference.
We arrived at the resort after a 50 min drive from Faro airport up the winding roads with the most gorgeous hilly views and even spotted some storks perched peacefully in their nests above. Greeted by the most helpful, attentive and smiley staff members making us feel instantly welcomed and at home.
The resort has everything you may need, all rooms are contemporary apartment suites with sensational views of the mountains and the ocean. Unfortunately we chose a cloudy time to visit Portugal, although still very warm, with the clearest of skies and perfect weather on the last day of our stay (typical!)
There is a separate resort for couples and another for families, which is the ultimate “icing on the cake” if what you are looking for is a quiet “child-free” escape.
Macdonald Monchique offers a range of dining options with four different restaurants across the resort; a Portuguese tapas bar, a pizzeria, gourmet a-la-Carte restaurant and fine dining. There is also a cocktail bar with spectacular view and a pool bar.
It’s so essential when staying in a resort to be able to have a variety of places and cuisines to chose from and thankfully we were more than spoiled for choice. Mercado Culinario offers the most amazing meat dishes that Portugal is famously known for with something for everybody. I recommend trying the Rodizio style steak, Maminha, it’s absolutely to die for, and the desserts are amazing, apple crumble straight out of the oven and creme brûlée for the win. Mon Chic is the resorts very own fine dining experience, with a outdoor terrace boasting mountainous views the elegant a-la-carte restaurant has a seasonal changing menu with local specialities and fine Portuguese wines. The breakfast served also has to be mentioned offering everything you could possibly dream of for breakfast, a fresh-made omelette bar, fluffy pancakes, fresh fruit and pastries as well as as mimosa’s! We all know that’s a #TeamCoco favourite!
The area of Monchique is renowned for its thermal waters, which are said to have healing powers, and are used as a base in products from local Monchique Cosmetics. Together with international luxury spa brand ESPA, the resort offers a range of treatments at the luxurious Sensorial spa. They also have a private room with a hot tub in tow that can be rented out, makes for a perfect little honeymoon spot. We indulged in a back, neck and shoulder massage and facial and checked out the various spa facilities afterwards. Not only does the spa include an indoor pool, but also has a Himalayan rock sauna, Turkish bath, ice room and sensorial showers that make you feel like you’re in the Amazonian jungle!
As well as the extensive spa facilities, Macdonald Monchique Resort & Spa boasts indoor and outdoor pools, and a comprehensive wellness program, featuring yoga, pilates and meditation. The resort can also book outdoor activities like nature walks, paddle-boarding, bird watching or surfing so clearly the perfect location to reset and recharge your batteries, as we did.
Macdonald Monchique is the complete package if you’re looking for a peaceful retreat, action activity filled holiday or a family break with a difference and #TeamCoco is happy there’s a new resort in an idyllic location that caters to everyone.
And we can have some good news for you all, if you book now using the Summer Sale, which runs until end of September, you will be able to stay in one of the Terrace suites for minimum 167 EUR per night, including bed and breakfast. This price is for stays during the month of August.
