If you have decided that you want to start a rewarding career as a teacher, you may still feel like you want to have a few travel adventures before your work commitments begin. You may not, however, want to delay actually qualifying to go and see some more of the world.

A good way to ‘have your cake and eat it’ can, for some people, be to study for your masters in education online and do the majority of your studying as you are traveling.

An online masters in education is something that is offered by a great many reputable colleges, and so you will have no problem finding a course that will give you the training you want online. However, is it really possible to study while traveling, and do it effectively?

Build Your Travel Plans Around Your Study or Your Study Around Your Travel

It is possible to do a lot of studying while you travel, but whether you can or not depends on things like the destinations you go to and the facilities there (you will need Wi-Fi and a quiet place to study after all), how packed your itinerary is, and things like whether you plan to work as you travel. Other factors like whether you are going alone or with friends may also affect how much time you can devote to study while you travel.

You therefore need to decide whether the travel or the study is the priority, and plan the second priority around the first.

Putting Study First

If getting your masters in education as quickly as you can is the priority, and you’d simply like to see some places as you do it, plan to visit destinations where it will be easy to find the amenities you need such as in Europe or Australia, and plan not to be constantly moving between locations. Plan long enough in each place you want to go to see the sights and also pack in as much study as you’d aim to do at home.

Putting Travel First

If traveling and experiencing things before you get into a career is more important to you than qualifying quickly, then plan your travel first and look for the windows in your plans where you can fit in study sessions. On flights, on days where you have nothing planned and sometimes at the evening, you can pack in some study and make progress on your degree, however it will naturally take you longer to complete your course studying in this more ad hoc way.

That is fine, you can do online degrees at your own pace, but don’t set your expectations of what you can get done too high if you choose this option – you’ll just end up stressed and won’t enjoy yourself!

The trick to being able to travel and study is to work out what you really want from your trip, and be willing to compromise for the things you think are most important.
