Forget Me Not After Tying the Knot

With wedding season in full swing, latest research commissioned by SuperBreak suggests that for those already married, the excitement of new love may not linger in the air for long. More than one in 10 (11 per cent) of wedded couples admitted to forgetting their first anniversary and, perhaps surprisingly, women pipped men to the post as the most forgetful gender. These results surprised all of us at House of Coco.

Bygone bridezillas were revealed to be the worst culprits for failing to treat their other halves to a surprise anniversary getaway or gift, being twice as likely as the groom to leave the preparations too late or forget the occasion altogether.

However, when it comes to personal relationship milestones, nearly half (49 per cent) claim to mark their own, alternative occasions. In a move away from the traditional, time-orientated calendar, the modern anniversary list as voted for by couples across the UK focuses on experiences together, with first selfies and changing the Facebook status to ‘in a relationship’ featuring in the top 10.

SuperBreak reveals the top 10 modern anniversary list:

  1. When they first met
  2. Their first date
  3. When they moved in together
  4. The first time saying ‘I love you’
  5. When they got engaged
  6. Their first kiss
  7. Their first holiday together
  8. The first time ‘staying over’
  9. Their first selfie together
  10. Changing the relationships status on Facebook

Anyone looking to make their other half feel special can rest assured the genders align when it comes to their preference in present – with a holiday, once in a lifetime experience and a surprise date night the top three anniversary gifts of choice for both men and women.

We often hear from customers looking for inspiration for a romantic getaway – and with the research suggesting men and women prioritise experience-based milestones and gifts, planning a couples retreat could be just the ticket to make your next anniversary one to remember.”
