For vibrant expression, and FORWARD FASHION.
You may think we are talking about House of Coco magazine but this time all eyes are not on us, they are on Tribe Jewellery. A brand that is after our own heart. Here, we go behind the brand and speak to the brand founder Sarah to find out more…
When did you launch the brand and what was the reason behind it?
I Launched my jewellery line back in 2009. (We started as ‘Adorn Jewelry’ and recently rebranded to TRIBE Jewelry, which is a much more fitting name for our aesthetic.) Our mission is to design and create beautiful, bohemian jewelry, for Free Spirited women! TRIBE Jewelry is inspired by our travels, and the natural materials we use to craft the collection: Crystals, Stones, Silver, and Gold.
Whats your background?!
I started making jewelry from a very young age. My passion for the craft really grew while living in Arizona, where I began studying Metals & Jewelry and Product Design. I then completed my studies at the Savannah College of Art & Design in Georgia, before re-locating to Philadelphia. Here, I worked for the bohemian fashion brand Free People, before launching Adorn, in 2009. I opened Adorn Boutique & Showroom, which featured our own Jewelry and Accessory collections, surrounded by treasures I found in my travels, and from other designers. In 2015 we re-branded to TRIBE Jewelry, and closed our retail boutique, to focus more on traveling and design, and to sell online and through other boutiques!
What is the hardest challenge you have faced since you started the company?
Before closing the Boutique, I found myself a bit overwhelmed, because as a small operation with only a few employees, I was designing collections, manufacturing it, and selling online, wholesale, and retail. It was difficult to stay inspired and focus on designing while running our retail business, and I felt that I was spread too thin. That was definitely a challenge. I’m feeling better now that we have a more narrowed focus.
2015 is here, where do you plan on taking the brand?!
We are currently in the process of re-locating to California! I’ll be living and working in the Redwood Forest, an incredibly beautiful and inspiring natural area. I plan to focus much more on design. We plan to expand our offerings on Tribe-Jewelry.com, and to grow our wholesale business, selling TRIBE Jewelry through boutiques and companies internationally.
We’re so excited about our new line that we’ll be launching this fall! These new styles feature engraved geometric patterns, and natural crystals and stones, set in sterling silver and gold-plated silver; stackable cuff bracelets, simple and statement rings, and neckpieces. In addition to jewelry, I love designing bohemian Home Decor Products as well! We’re currently carrying an assortment of Crystal Candelholders, Incense, Sage Smudges, Dreamcatchers, and Jewelry Boxes. I like to think of Home Decor as jewelry for the home! This has been a great new area of focus for me, and I plan to expand these offerings as well!
To date, what has been the highlight since launching?
Getting to share my designs with so many awesome women! Adorn Boutique gave me the opportunity to connect directly with many of my customers, and to start seeing my jewels on women all over Philadelphia! Now with more focus on our online business, we’re thrilled to expand our reach and to share TRIBE Jewelry more internationally. Its also been truly wonderful to collaborate with other talented artists and designers. I work with many great bloggers, photographers, stylists, and models, who inspire me and help create our visual story for TRIBE. I guess it’s tough to pinpoint a specific highlight, but its been truly amazing to get to make a career out of my craft, and to share my style with the world.
Which city do you feel most at home in, London, Paris or New York?!
Well, since I am from New York, I’d have to say I feel most at home there! Although I absolutely love London and Paris as well! !
Three beauty products you can’t leave the house without?!
My beauty routine is pretty simple: Mineral powder, mascara, and Chanel Mademoiselle.
Style means expressing yourself aesthetically though the clothing, accessories and jewelry you gather. Dress to highlight your assets, and above all never compromise comfort. Style is also a function of lifestyle – you’re look expresses your beliefs and who you are.
