The House of Leaf brand produces handmade Irish silk scarves for the customer that likes the finer things in life. Every bit of your order will scream luxury, from the minute the branded box arrives to the minute you place the scarf around your neck.
This brand was founded by #Girlboss Lorna Finnegan, with a background working in the luxury sector, it was inevitable that one day she would launch her own business.
Here, she tells us more…
When did you launch the brand and what was the reason behind it?
I just recently launched the website in January 2017 After a year of design and development .
Within the 10 years I worked in the luxury fashion industry, the biggest thing I noticed were the customers interest in the development of the design. How the design came about, the inspiration and story behind the product and also behind the brand. For example rather than buying a branded black bag with only the details of how and where it was made available, they would light up when shown another product which was also a branded black bag but had a story, the story of the designer and the inspiration behind the collection. I noticed the difference in the behaviour once more depth was giving to the product the customer became more emotionally connected and because of that the product would sell itself.
It was then I came to believe and experience that people were not being supplied with enough emotion from their products. We are emotional human beings that go far beyond the surface but our clothing and accessories only cater for our surface level needs and desires. Creating a brand that had depth, meaning and substance in order to connect with the customer emotionally began to be my quest and passion in life. Which in 2016 lead to the development of the Silk Scarf by L.E.A.F. The beauty of Art combined with the depth and story contained within a quote printed onto a piece of fine luxurious silk.
Whats your background?
Since the age of 16 I was working part time at luxury department sores where my love for fashion and design grew I then went onto study fashion design and marketing in Milan at IMB (insitituio Di Moda Burgo). After college I went onto do numerous internships with fashion designers in Ireland and abroad. I used to do art in school and always kept it up on the side and now am lucky enough to be able to combine design and art into my scarves
Tell us one fact about you that people wouldn’t know?
Before I went to study Fashion design I was in actually studying computer science. I love technology but it wasn’t what I wanted to make a career out of and left after the 1st semester and haven’t looked back. I still get to incorporate my love of technology in L.E.A.F as I made the website and use a lot of other modern technology in the design process and would love to grow into wearable tech in the future
2017 is here, where do you plan on taking the brand?
Everywhere I would love to see a L.E.A.F scarf in the wardrobe of woman all over the world and for them to be inspired and uplifted each time they wear their scarf
To date, what has been the highlight since launching?
I would say being featured in Elle UK and Harper’s Bazaar and also when the first order from the website came through that was a highland to see that email come through definitely.

In future, how do you plan on expanding the company?
The intention of L.E.A.F as a brand is to create products from a mindful place with meaning and substance that are ethically soured, sustainable and of the highest quality. With this in mind I aim through L.E.A.F to continue to grow and provide products with this ethos starting with scarves growing into mens accessories more woman accessories and who knows what else. I would also love to venture into wearable tech
