KIMSU takes a philosophy that even the tiniest symbols, gestures, and experiences can ignite a passion within. Through handmade jewels and geometrical designs imitating symbols of strength, KIMSU pushes women to find the confidence to be themselves. Here, we go behind the brand with Roberto and Sue, the founders, to find out more…

When did you launch the brand and what was the reason behind it?
Roberto: We launched KIMSU in October 2017, but we started working on it end of 2016, the day Sue one morning called me saying “Roberto, I just quit my job!”. Indeed, she always had a passion for jewels and that day we decided to leave our old life behind and start this new adventure together, following our passions.

Whats your background?
Sue: My background is in Interior design and architecture. I worked as an interior designer more than 7 years across Korea, US, Italy and Germany.

Roberto: I worked in digital marketing for the past 7 years, but I grew up in an extremely entrepreneurial environment, with all my family members being entrepreneurs since 3 generations.

How many people are involved in the company and what are their roles?
Sue: I am a creative director – I design our jewellery pieces and all the graphic and visual parts and Roberto is our CEO, he is in charge of all the business and marketing aspects for KIMSU.

What is the hardest challenge you have faced since you started the company?
Roberto: putting all the pieces together. This was a relatively new world for us, so we had to learn how to do it while doing it. We truly loved the excitement, but at the same time, it has been challenging.

Tell us one fact about you that people wouldn’t know?
Sue: For my 1st birthday, as per Korean tradition, I received as present a golden ring. I think that is where it all started!

To date, what has been the highlight since launching?
Roberto: being selected by Wolf & Badger for their Notting Hill store, being contacted by Vanity Fair and House of Coco of course!

Which city do you feel most at home in, London, Paris or New York?
Sue: probably NY, because I lived there for a year even though long time ago.

Three beauty products you can’t leave the house without?
Sue: Lipstick, eyeliner and that’s about it.
Best thing about London to you?

Sue: Sherlock Holmes. Hahaha.

Roberto: How people are open-minded, and not scared of trying new things.

If you had to, what piece of clothing from your wardrobe would you wear everyday?

Sue: I would go for a simple black dress; I think it perfectly matches my jewellery.

Favourite love song?
Sue: Hahaha. I don’t listen to love songs much but if I have to choose one, then… Chet Faker ‘ I’m into you’.

Roberto: Pink Floyd – Wish you were here.

Best place for a coffee?
Sue: I must say… Italy?! They have amazing espresso everywhere.

Roberto: You cannot ask this question to an Italian…

Guilty pleasure?
Sue: Sometimes listening to 90s pop. Love them!

Roberto: ahah, well, same as Sue!

If you could spent 24 hours in anywhere in the world, where would it be?
Sue: In Bali

Roberto: on a space shuttle.
