Designer Spotlight : House of Botta

House of Botta was founded in February 2017 by Anna and Maryna. As two creative #girlbosses they are keen to offer their customers something that they might not find so easily on the Highstreet. They are bringing together new rising fashion designers via their online marketplace.

Here, they tell us more…

When did you launch the brand and what was the reason behind it?
Maryna: We launched HOUSE of BOTTA February 2017. The idea came from personal disappointment with highstreet shopping in UK. Surely retail is highly developed in UK, but now more than ever 70% what is available on the hightstreet is very so similar. From middle to top brands … TKMaxx and outlets completely changed shoppers attitude towards labels and RRP prices, as well as what shoppers choose and how they choose. Shopping no longer exciting and we wanted to change that. Offer something different that is not available on the highstreet.

Anna: Although we are a new company we didn’t expect such a great respond from public and customers. It does look like it’s not just us bored with current retail. People seemed way more opened minded and flexible about new places to shop and new brands to wear than we anticipated.

Whats your background?
Maryna: My professional background is export/import trade, as well as psychology in mental health. I did masters in psychology and wanted to see what mental health was really like in practice.

My business partner and co-founder is a lawyer with OCD to small details in everything. Don’t ever try to debate with her.

How many people are involved in the company and what are their roles?
There are five permanent team members including me and my business partner Anna. We have young creative team (women only), very passionate and talented buyers and IT guru. Anna handling PR and certain designers from certain regions, where is I handle everything else.

If you could start over with the business, would you do anything differently?
Maryna: Haha! No. I mean we only young startup, almost newborn if you may. The prelaunch year was really hard but so much fun. From moment of launching pressure only rising but so is the fun ( I mean if you in such kind of fun).

Anna: We came into this business from other professional areas, purely driven by passion in fashion (I know it sounds so cheesy). We had to learn lots and quickly…but would I change anything …NO! not a thing.

What is the hardest challenge you have faced since you started the company?
Maryna: Find professional IT specialist – we changed three IT teams, until we found our IT guru. As you can imagine its really important for digital business.

Anna: I dont like focusing on challenges and especially pick the hardest one…it doesn’t really matter… what matters if we managed to overcome the challenge and what the result is. Every company, especially at the start up stage faces challenges, but only few make it … we want to be in this small club of those who made it through.

Tell us one fact about you that people wouldn’t know?
Maryna: I am the laziest person on Earth )))

Anna: I dont like share secrets.

2017 is here, where do you plan on taking the brand?
Maryna: Well, 2017 almost behind us (in my head any way ), we plan to finish 2017 with 100 brands being present at HOUSE of BOTTA and start being recognised as a place to come for something new in UK.

Anna: Develop strong Brand awareness and become a destination place (online destination place).

Maryna: 7th of July 2017 , not only because it was my brother-in-law’s epic 30th birthday party, but HOUSE of BOTTA been featured in VOGUE UK for the very first time.
