At Angle New York, they believe that being an athlete is in your DNA. Once an athlete, always an athlete. Their collection was inspired by a group of nine professional women tennis players, lead by Billie Jean King, who fought against the inequities of prize money between men and women tennis players. This group is famously known as “The Original 9.” The time was the 70’s and the idea of equal rights was in the air.

Tell us a bit about your journey with Angle New York to getting where you are today?
I had been playing tennis for about 20 years and never found what I wanted when it came to fashionable tennis gear. Once I decided to form my own brand I talked to everyone and anyone, took lots of notes and did endless amounts of market research. My commitment to quality fabrics, functional style and upholding my part in being as Eco-conscious as possible made the journey a bit longer and harder than I would have liked but I had a passion for offering exceptional tennis apparel that is manufactured and produced in the USA. Through word of mouth and networking. Everything sort of fell into place with forming my team, and in about one year we were ready to produce our first collection. Now, we will be launching our second collection, ROAR July 2016.
This process has been one of the most rewarding, challenging and fulfilling things I’ve done in my life.
What has been your highlight since launching the brand?
Seeing how proud my children have been. Knowing that I am setting a good example from which they will benefit.
I have also been blown away by the out-pour of support from friends and family who are constantly cheering me on.
Describe the brand in 3 words…
Tell us what a typical day in your life looks like?
I have a 13-year-old daughter and a 10-year-old son, so the weekdays always start by getting them off to school. I then either work out for 45 minutes or I go to my twice a week tennis clinic and hit with my great friends. Then it’s back at the office returning calls, emails, meeting with my marketing team, conference calls etc..
At day’s end, I like to cook dinner and exchange stories from our days my kids and me.
Who/what inspires you?
My first collection is named “The Original 9 – Court Coverage Collection.” The Original 9 was a group of nine professional female tennis players led by Billie Jean King. The group was formed in the 70’s and fought against the inequality in prize money between men and women tennis players. It’s a great story that I found immensely inspirational. So, in honor of these women who paved the way, and exhibited such courage and bravery, and created a firm foundation for female athletes; we named every silhouette in this collection after each one of the Original 9 athletes. This story will forever be the foundation of Angle New York and it is one that needs to be shared, so I tell the story to anyone who will listen – men and women alike!
You are clearly well traveled, where is your favorite place on the planet?
The back porch at my Watermill home with my kids and good friends, watching the sunset at the end of a great summer’s day.
Or Rome Italy…… LOVE ROME!!
When creativity is lacking, what do you do to get it back?
I disconnect and take a walk in Central Park – if you can’t find inspiration there, I’m not sure you’ll find it anywhere.
Are there any sources you go for support with running your business?
Yes. My friend Ken Seiff who started BlueFly is someone who has been very gracious with lending an ear and giving me advice. I am also very fortunate to have many friends in New York who are constantly helping me network and collaborate with potential partners.
What are your plans for the brand in the rest of 2016?
We are focused on collaborating with bloggers and brand ambassadors in both the tennis and golf arena. We design for tennis but our styles can transition very nicely into golf and we have received great feedback from incorporating the elements a female golfer would appreciate in luxury athletic wear.
Our mission is to spread the story of the Original 9 and encourage more youth to play tennis. By investing time and resources in initiatives and programs that encourage teamwork and cultivate the wonderful fundamentals that can be acquired from playing a sport as a young girl.

Did you always know that one day you would be a #Girlboss?
I always knew I would inevitably follow my passion and create something I truly believed in.
If there’s one #Girlboss activity you could get better at, what would it be?
Delegating….. I tend to be a bit of a “do it yourself” type of person, but I am learning to let go and have others pitch in.
For people aspiring to run their own company, what advice would you give?
Persevere! Don’t give up. Don’t listen to the naysayers, because trust me, they are out there. Be true to yourself and go with your gut. And as I always say “Maintain that sense of humor!”
