It is rare for such a buzz to surround a student that is yet to graduate but Sabrina Shah Hakim is breaking to mould by enticing the design world with her textiles prowess. As an emerging designer, Sabrina Shah Hakim feels a great sentimental connection to the Deco Collection as it is the first collection that she feels truly reflects her identity. The geometric patterns and clashing colour palate of warm hues of salmon, mustards and sharp pops of black fit into the current design trends perfectly. The faux suede finish adds a luxuriousness to the cushions and makes them extra appealing to snuggle up to. The design is easy to incorporate into an existing scheme that is crying out for a splash of colour and it provides an easy autumnal update.
Sabrina’s cushions are currently stocked by Designers/Makers, an online shop for contemporary design. Founded in 2010, Designers/Makers has grown from a local design market in London into an Agency supporting freelance designers. This agency is an essential resource to help create a strong and supportive design community.
Throughout her MA at Chelsea College of Arts, she is challenging herself in the world of sustainability within textile. Her ‘goal’ is to find alternative ways to create designs with a more eco-conscious root. Sustainability is an incredibly important issue that needs to be addressed within the world of design and the new generation of designers coming through are the key. Here at House of Coco we cannot wait to see what the future holds for this young designer and look forward to championing future collections.
