Summer on Boar Lane is set to be a sizzler, with the arrival of a new cocktail bar from one of the UK’s best loved brands. Less than two years since Be At One made its Northern debut just off Millennium Square, the party in Leeds expands with the newest opening just half a mile away.
Boar Lane has seen an almighty revival since Trinity opened back in 2013, and Be At One is set to raise the bar even higher with its unique take on the art of cocktail making. With over 150 concoctions on its ever-evolving menu, revellers are in store for a treat no matter what their tipple of choice may be.
Quality in quantity
Classics such as the Singapore Sling and the Espresso Martini sit alongside ingenious creations such as the summery Mango and Orange Fizz and the party starting Jager Mega Drive. And for anyone sculpting the perfect beach bod, then the ground-breaking Virtuous range come loaded with flavour, but with waistline friendly natural sugars and a lower ABV.
The Almond Mocha is one such cocktail, blending Kahlua with almond butter, raw chocolate powder and palm sugar syrup to create a drink that’s packed with flavour despite being much more guilt free than a regular cocktail. Teetotallers and designated drivers are also well-served, with alcohol free options such as the delicious Passionate Pomme being anything but an afterthought.
And, if you just want to kick back and indulge, then the luxurious ice-cream range will blow your mind, with the likes of the peanut butter cup and bourbon infused Rhys’s Pieces pleasing the sweetest of pallets.
Worst kept secret
The secret to the success story of Be At One isn’t actually a secret, rather testament to years of hard work, dedication and a passion for premium cocktails. Each team member is hired full time, and backed by £5k worth of investment to ensure they know the extensive menu off by heart, and trained in the style of free pouring American bartending.
Friendly competition is also widely encouraged, with 2010 seeing the introduction of the now legendary Be At One Bartender Challenge. Here, the brands finest movers and shakers get the chance to show their peers just what their made of, and are put through their paces to become crowned champion.
Co-founder, Steve Locke, had this to say about the latest chapter in the brands story:
‘’Millennium Square was out first site in the North, it was an obvious choice for us because of Leeds’ thriving independent cocktail scene and the City’s unpretentious attitude to fun. We were welcomed by the cocktail drinking fraternity and have enjoyed a fantastic two years here.
When the opportunity arose to take another site on Boar Lane we jumped at it. The site is half a mile away between the train station and Trinity and allows us to introduce the party to a different part of town.’’
The people of Leeds may be forgiven for thinking that the Be At One story is a fairly new one, however this has been no overnight success story. The first bar was in fact opened way back in 1998 in Battersea Rise, where Steve, alongside Rhys Oldfield and Leigh Miller, decided to take their passion for bartending to the next level, took out car loans, bought the site of a run-down Indian restaurant and never looked back.
Today, Be At One not only have an impressive chain of cocktail bars dotted throughout select parts of the UK, but an award-winning app, which includes the ever-popular Appi Hour. This innovative invention can be activated by customers any time up to 10pm Sunday – Thursday, for an extra hour of two for one cocktails.
Join the party from the 26th May, when the newest bar from the Be At One family lands on Boar Lane in Leeds, just in time for summer.
