Here at House of Coco we won’t lie, we are so nosy. We love to see what goes on behind the scenes so the latest release from More4 is right up our street.
In the run-up to London Fashion Week (17-21 February 2017), More4 will screen Inside Dior, a two-part observational documentary series which takes an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the fashion house on its 70th birthday.
In February 1947, Christian Dior founded a new haute couture house, launched his ‘New Look’ and started a fashion revolution. The designer himself died just 10 years later but the brand he created has gone from strength to strength. In 2017, the House of Dior will be 70. To celebrate this landmark, Inside Dior takes an exclusive look behind-the-scenes of the billion- dollar brand today, to find out about its present and its past.
Programme one starts with an opulent party at the reopening of Christian Dior’s restored summer mansion – La Colle Noire, outside Grasse in the South of France. A party hosted by Hollywood actress Charlize Theron with many celebrity guests in attendance.
The episode is built around two spectacular Dior fashion shows – the Cruise show at Blenheim Palace, one of Britain’s most famous stately homes, and the haute couture show in Paris. We see the tension behind-the-scenes as Dior seamstresses rush to get everything finished to perfection and meet the models and the international clients who spend fortunes each year on Dior couture – and are entertained at lavish formal dinners in Paris like something from the court of Louis XIV.
Underpinning the episode is Dior’s quest to find a new Creative Director to follow in the footsteps of the designers like Yves Saint Laurent, Marc Bohan, John Galliano and Christian Dior himself.
For the first time in its 70-year history, Dior has appointed a female Creative Director, Italian Maria Grazia Chiuri. Episode two of Inside Dior has a close-up view as she puts her stamp on what has become one of the 21st century’s best-known super brands. It takes an exclusive behind-the-scenes look as the former Valentino designer prepares her first collection in just weeks and shows it on the world’s stage at Paris Fashion Week.
Maria Grazia is at the centre of a billion-dollar brand, spanning clothes, make-up, handbags and perfume – and in this episode, we look at the beauty side of the business as well.
We meet Francois Demachy, Dior’s ‘nose’, in the rose and jasmine fields of the South of France to learn what it takes to make a best-selling perfume and Makeup director, Peter Philips, as he creates the right catwalk look.
The episode ends with the world’s fashion press and stars from Kate Moss to Rihanna and Natalie Portman attending Maria Grazia’s first show – will it be a success?
