Obtaining the perfect vehicle for your travels is vital as the vehicle that you drive can change your entire experience of the country that you are visiting. Rather than just settling for the vehicle that you already own, here are some of the top tips that you can follow to get the perfect vehicle for your next travels in 2023.

Sell Your Old Car

Many people cannot afford to have more than one car to their name, especially if they are solely interested in luxury vehicles. Instead of saving up more money to pay for the vehicle that you have in mind, you should consider selling the car that you already have. You could do this the traditional way, or you could use a sale or return scheme in which a dealership takes responsibility of your car for the duration of the sale period, and if the car doesn’t sell, you get it back. This leaves you no worse off if it doesn’t sell, but if it does sell, you won’t have had to deal with the hassle. This will allow you to unlock the funds that you need for your holiday car. Alternatively, you can partially or wholly trade in the vehicle that you already own to get a new one. If you are interested in selling your car this year, you should consider searching for companies to sell my Ferrari online. These will give you the opportunity to sell your vehicle for what it is worth and will ensure that the process goes as smoothly as possible.

Look at Rentals

However, sometimes, the car that will be perfect for your travels may not always be the perfect car for everyday life. If that is the case, you should consider visiting companies that offer car rentals. This will ensure that you can find the right car for your travels but that you will not have to keep this car in your name for many years to come. Renting a car can also be a cheaper and hassle-free option. However, you need to make sure that you have budgeted for your car rental and that you meet the terms of the rental. For instance, each country has a different restriction on the age that you need to be to rent a car.

Think Outside of Cars

Although cars might be the most traditional type of vehicle, this does not mean that they will be right for your getaway. Instead of only looking at the many cars on offer to you, you should instead consider investing in a campervan or caravan. These vehicles will give you more space when you are away, and you may even be able to live out of some of these vehicles if you deck them out properly. This can save you money on accommodation, even though you may find that you spend more money on fuel for your vehicle.

Consider the Terrain

You will also need to take the terrain of your destination into consideration when you are planning on finding the perfect vehicle for your travels. For instance, if you are driving around hilly terrain, you should make sure that you choose a durable car with sturdy tires and a powerful engine that will allow you to navigate this terrain with ease. This will mean that you face fewer problems when it comes to driving around during your holiday.

This year is the 30th anniversary of the installation of the Big Buddha in Hong Kong, officially known as the Tian Tan Buddha. It’s a must-visit destination for any tourist visiting the enclave, whether they are religious or not. Taking 12 years to plan and build by the Po Lin Monastery, its architectural magnificence has been admired the world over. It might be on the same island as the local airport and Disneyland but you get a sense of what Lantau Island is about when you visit the Big Buddha. The mountainous greenery with breathtaking hiking trails is a far cry from the shopping mecca images frequently used to portray Hong Kong.

Getting to the Big Buddha might seem like a pilgrimage, but is remarkably straightforward especially if you opt for the Ngong Ping Cable Car rather than the winding bus routes through the island. It is an adventurous 25-minute journey ride. They offer crystal cabins with a glass bottom which offer uninterrupted views of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge and the Big Buddha. Once you get off, it’s a 10-minute walk to the monastery.

During the walk, you pass through Ngong Ping Village, a quaint revival of traditional Cantonese villages. You can sample traditional delicacies like egg waffles. You can purchase local handy crafts like Chinese opera accessories and masks. There are multimedia and immersive experiences like the art of chocolate making and a 5-D theatre suitable for the whole family.

The Big Buddha is the second-largest seated outdoor bronze Buddha statue in the world. The statue is 34 metres tall and you’ll need to ascend 268 steps to the base of the statue for a closer inspection. It is well worth the hike as you get splendid views of the verdant scenery surrounding the iconic structure. And if you are methodical, you’ll notice many famous faces having their final resting place including famed Cantonese pop star, Anita Mui.

The Big Buddha Statue was voted as the fourth of the 10 Engineering Wonders in Hong Kong in 2000. The first three were all government works projects. Top of the list is the Lantau Link followed by the Hong Kong International Airport Passenger Terminal, and in third place is the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre Extension. In terms of private projects, the Big Buddha statue came out on top.

If you want to escape the hectic city life, the monastery runs a 1-week mediation retreat held on the final week of the first lunar month. Leading monks will lead attendees on meditative walks and also there will be discussions about Zen Buddhism. It will especially help you with achieving clarity of mind if you are lacking focus or are easily distracted.

Chinese cuisine is not always known as the most vegetarian friendly but you can try exceptional Buddhist vegetarian dishes at the monastery. Dishes are designed to cleanse the body and the soul and might include steamed bean curd with olive leaf and asparagus with exotic mushrooms and cashew. There is also a snack shop next to the restaurant for those looking for a quick bite. You can sample the delights of bean curd dessert and glutinous rice dumplings filled with mango. The bean curd is made daily in-house and is known to be especially silky-smooth and inviting. Most of the items are prepared in small quantities and often do sell out.

Apart from the Big Buddha statue itself, there are plenty of other spectacles to behold such as the grand hall of ten thousand Buddhas and the main shrine hall of Buddha. Both of which are extremely busy, especially on religious days. There are plenty of garden areas for people to enjoy all the wonderful outdoor spaces such as the orchid garden and the bauhinia park. There is also the wisdom path, which is an installation of 38 wooden structures carved with the complete verses of the Heart Sutra, written by master calligrapher Jao Tsung-I.

There’s always been a romanticism connected with the Dordogne Périgord region. There are countless châteaus steeped in history. You will find a famous UNESCO world heritage site. There is a garden that could be a new wonder of the world and a luxury hotel that would make King Louis XIV proud. Here, we examine why a fairytale journey to the region is at the top of most Francophiles’ wish lists. In particular, the region of Périgord noir, which is the most visited region in the Dordogne.

Charming châteaus

Are there exactly 1001 castles in the Dordogne Valley? I would guess more, but the advertising genius who came up with that slogan has sprinkled their stardust on the region. Those with a penchant for the paranormal should visit Château de Puymartin. It is widely known as the castle of the White Lady and has belonged to the same family for over 500 years. The neo-gothic style heightens the atmospheric haunted stories. The most famous is the story of the adulterous Thérèse de Saint-Clar in the 16th century, who was imprisoned in the northern tower until her death.

Another must-visit castle is Château des Milandes. Exuding feminine charm in abundance, it was the former home of renowned entertainer and civil rights activist, Joséphine Baker. She was widely credited by Angelina Jolie as an inspiration for “a model for the multiracial, multinational family”. Her art-deco bathrooms are dripping with decadence from black Murano glass tiles to real gold embellishments; her iconic costumes and her life story are on full display; whilst the stunning French garden with geometric topiary hedges and flower borders is a photographer’s paradise. The Ridley Scott 2021 film ‘The Last Duel’ was filmed at Château de Beynac. It was built in the 12th century and is one of the best preserved in France.

Prehistoric cave of Lascaux IV

The history of the region stretches back to the Palaeolithic period with the discovery of the remarkable Lascaux cave paintings. The animals depicted are of such exquisite quality, scope and sophistication, it was no surprise the site was given UNESCO World Heritage Sites status back in 1979. The original Lascaux cave was sealed off to the public in 1963 as the carbon dioxide and humidity generated by visitors were damaging the paintings. In a remarkable feat of ingenuity, they’ve recreated a complete replica of the prehistoric cave which you can visit on-site. It may be a facsimile, but it is an authentic dark and damp experience akin to the actual cave. They’ve also curated a travelling exhibition: The Cave Art of Lascaux: a Virtual Reality Experience, which will tour Bristol in the summer of 2023.

Marqueyssac gardens

Named by the BBC as one of the six extraordinary gardens in the world you must visit, the overhanging gardens of Marqueyssac are a sight to behold. With 150,000 hand-trimmed boxwoods in the shape of lollipops and balls, this is a botanical maze that will delight adults and children alike. The garden is perched 130 metres above the Dordogne River with breathtaking views of the idyllic countryside. There are 15 hectares of gardens and parkland with peacocks strutting alongside the 6 km of paths, so it’s the ideal place for picnic adventures or a romantic stroll. They frequently have temporary art exhibitions as well as offering more adventurous activities such as La Via Ferrata cliff climbing.

Domaine de Rochebois

After visiting all the fabulous châteaus, you will probably want to live the life of a marquis yourself. In that case, the only place to consider for your accommodation is Domaine de Rochebois. It is the only five-star hotel within a 200km radius. It is a family business run by the young entrepreneurs of the Pruneyrac family. They’ve brought their years of experience in the hospitality and tourism industry to deliver a refined experience fit for a marquis. The location might be set amongst quaint cottages and farmland, but it’s only a short, 15-minute drive to the medieval town of Sarlat. It has an impressive Benedictine abbey and is a great place to pick up gastronomic delights such as foie gras, black truffles, and duck confits.

There are 40 rooms and suites at the hotel decorated in green, purple, black and white, representing the colours of the Périgord. Throughout the hotel, you’ll see outstanding metal artwork from renowned sculptor Pierre Treilhes. He’ll use upcycled metal to create iconic pieces like the Gallic rooster. The hotel has a NUXE spa with a sensory pool for those seeking relaxation, and a 6-hole golf course for those seeking countryside greenery.

They take pride in offering world-class food and beverage options. Their gastronomic restaurant, Le M is led by executive chef Jean-Philippe Vecco, who trained under legendary Pierre Gagnaire and Alain Ducasse. His tasting menu starts with a butter tray station where you can use various accoutrements to create your own bespoke offering for your palate. It is all about supporting local producers and using local produce. Expect dishes like shredded Périgord suckling pig and Périgord pigeon cooked in 3-ways. An award-winning bartender will serve you a classy concoction at their Le Josephine bar, named after Josephine Baker. The cocktail to try is unsurprisingly Josephine’s favourite, which consists of Remy Landier Cognac, Champagne, Sucre de Canne, bitters, and huile d’orange. All-day dining is at Brasserie Le Wedge where they offer comforting classics like chicken ballotine with creamy risotto.

What Domaine de Rochebois does very well is to connect you with the outdoor experiences of Périgord noir. They can arrange a truffle hunting experience at Le Domaine de Vielcroze. They can arrange a hot-air sunset balloon ride. They can arrange for tours to one of the most beautiful villages in France, La Roque Gageac along with a kayaking experience. You can also visit the troglodyte caves of La Roque Saint-Christophe. The list of options is endless and Domaine de Rochebois makes a great base for you to discover the region.

The travel industry has been thriving post covid because people are looking for any respite they can get. Planning a trip abroad often involves obtaining a travel visa, which grants entry to a specific country. Travel visas are crucial documents that allow individuals to visit new places, experience diverse cultures, and create unforgettable memories. However, alongside the increasing popularity of global travel, there has been an increase in fraudulent operations targeting unsuspecting travelers. According to Finextra, the travel and tourism business accounts for 10.2% of worldwide GDP.

Additionally, travel visas are vital in international travel, as they regulate entry and stay in foreign countries. Fraudulent activities related to travel visas can lead to severe consequences, including financial loss, wasted travel expenses, and even legal troubles. Travelers must be aware of the risks and learn how to protect themselves from falling victim to travel frauds.

Understanding Travel Fraud

Travel scams refer to deceptive practices and scams targeting individuals who require travel visas. Fraudsters exploit the vulnerability of travellers by offering fraudulent visa services, promising quick approvals and easy access to desired destinations. Some common types of travel frauds include fake visa processing agencies, unauthorized individuals posing as visa agents, and identity theft for visa application purposes.

Red Flags to Identify Travel Frauds

Identifying potential travel frauds is crucial to avoid becoming a victim. Several red flags can help travellers spot fraudulent activities in the travel visa industry. They should be wary of suspicious websites and email communications that do not provide proper contact information or official credentials. Unrealistic promises and guarantees, such as guaranteed visa approvals or significantly reduced processing times, should also raise concerns. Additionally, a lack of transparency in fees and charges can indicate fraudulent practices.

Fraudulent Travel Visa Agents

One common tactic travel fraudsters use is creating fake visa processing agencies. These agencies mimic legitimate organizations, often using similar names and logos, to deceive travellers into believing they are obtaining genuine visas. Also, unauthorized individuals may pose as visa agents, offering services without the required credentials and knowledge. It is critical to be vigilant and verify the legitimacy of visa agents before employing their assistance.

Protecting from Travel Frauds

Travellers should safeguard themselves against travel fraud and ensure a smooth visa application by considering the following precautions:

1. Research and Verify: Travellers should do thorough research and kyc verification to check the authenticity of visa service providers before engaging with them. By incorporating an automatic address check into your CRM system, Address verification makes it simple to improve the quality of your CRM data. For well-known CRM software platforms, connectors based on our address verification service’s cloud version already exist. They should check for genuine customer reviews, and ensure they are registered with the appropriate government authorities.

2. Use Official Channels: Travellers should rely on official government websites or authorized visa centers to obtain accurate and up-to-date information regarding visa requirements, processes, and fees.

3. Beware of Unsolicited Offers:Travellers should be careful of unsolicited emails, phone calls, or text messages offering visa assistance. Legitimate visa agencies do not typically reach out to individuals without prior inquiry.

5. Seek Professional Advice: If travellers are unsure about the visa application process or have concerns about a particular service provider, they should seek advice from reputable travel agencies or consult an immigration lawyer. They can offer counsel based on their expertise and help make informed choices.

Reporting Travel Frauds

If someone encounters travel frauds or becomes a victim, it is crucial to report the incident promptly. They should notify local legal authorities and provide them with all the relevant details of the fraudulent activities. Located on the banks of the mighty Zambezi River is Wilderness Toka Leya, a brilliant, sustainable safari camp that really walks the walk when it comes to sustainability. Hannah Tan-Gillies went to discover if life by the river really is oh so sweet.

Wilderness is a safari company with a strong focus on conservation, understanding that without the magnificent animals and rich natural landscapes of the bush that there would be no such thing as safari. For Wilderness, conservation, sustainability and giving back to the communities in which it operates is part and parcel of business – and that is something that we can certainly get behind.

All Wilderness camps try their utmost to minimise their footprint on the environment and also go above and beyond to give back through reforestation and various community initiatives. For example, Wilderness Toka Leya is part of the ‘Children of the Wilderness’ programme which provides impoverished children in remote villages in Africa the chance to have a good education. Through this programme, the children are invited as guests to the camps – where they can learn about conservation, wildlife and sustainability.

Wilderness Toka Leya is one of the more upmarket camps in the Wilderness portfolio. You make your way to the camp via a short boat ride on the Zambezi and onto the camp’s beach (watch out for crocodiles sunning themselves on the banks) Here, where you are greeted with a welcome drink and plenty of smiles.

Wilderness Toka Leya is centred around an airy lounge that blends indoor and outdoor spaces. The outdoor dining area is shaded by a giant tree and overlooks the Zambezi River. Watch out for some cheeky blue velvet monkeys who have the tendency to grab a bit of your dinner if the mood dictates.

There is also a gorgeous pool, viewing deck and a small gym that offers breath-taking riverside views. Believe us, you will fall under Toka Leya’s spell from the moment you check-in.

Upon check-in you have a quick introduction to the camp’s rule sand your guide. Rule number 1 don’t walk beyond the boardwalks as the camp is surrounded by plenty of wild animals. Rule number 2 don’t walk alone on the boardwalks at night (a guide must be with you at all times) and Rule number 3, respect the animals and guides during your game drives – all essential information when going on any sort of safari. During our stay, a whole family or wild boars crossed the path, and a few crocs were seen just by the riverbed – so sticking to the rules is a must. Your guide will then make a bespoke plan for you – which usually involves a morning game drive and an afternoon sunset cruise.

Wilderness Toka Leya is located in the wonderful Mosi-o-Tunya National Park, which doesn’t have any big cats or predators. This means you’ll be able to see plenty of zebras, wildebeest, giraffes, baboons (hundreds everywhere), elephants and even White Rhinos. Guests at Toka Leya can go on Rhino Walks guided by local rangers, who monitor them 24/7 – it is truly a rarefied experience giving you an up close and personal look at these endangered animals.

Thanks to its location in Livingstone, Wilderness Toka Leya is also close to other cultural attractions too like the Victoria Falls and Livingstone Museum, meaning there’s plenty to do beyond the bush. You can even go white water rafting or fishing if you so desire.

Wilderness Toka Leya supports a local Sinde Village – and guests can also visit the village to meet the locals. During our visit, we learned that Wilderness helped the villagers with electricity, running water and other outreach projects – once again staying true to its commitment to give back.

There are 12 luxurious tents in the Wilderness Toka Leya Camp. The tents are air conditioned (most safari tents are not) and so this is a real treat, particularly when the African sun hits the hardest during the early afternoons. Here, you will find an indoor and outdoor shower, a large king-sized bed, luxury amenities and plenty of romance. There is nothing better than waking up and hearing the roaring waves of the Mighty Zambezi right outside your doorstep. Wilderness Toka Leya is a truly magical place, in a world where so few still genuinely are. It is also run by a company that’s genuinely one of the good guys, committed to keeping Mosi-o-Tunya a magical place in the years to come
