The Splendor and Magnificence of the Galapagos Islands

The Galapagos Islands are admired globally not only for their sublime beauty but also for their remarkable biodiversity. This archipelago positioned in the Pacific Ocean, almost 600 miles off the coast of Ecuador, comprises 19 islands and several inlets, each with unique landscapes – from volcanic rocks to sandy beaches and dense forests – which epitomize its unspoiled beauty. However, what makes Galapagos truly irreplaceable is its rich biodiversity. It serves as a home to a plethora of endemic species, like the marine iguana and the giant tortoise which exist nowhere else in the world, making it a haven for biologists. Its isolated location has nurtured a unique ecosystem that led to the evolution of distinct wildlife. This living museum and showcase of evolution inspired Charles Darwin’s Theory of Natural Selection, cementing the islands’ importance in the historical and scientific worlds.

Witnessing wildlife is a unique opportunity for many people. It brings a sense of peace and tranquillity, much different from the hectic urban lifestyle. In the heart of nature, you can observe animals in their natural habitat, where their behaviour is largely influenced by nature’s rhythms, rather than human interventions. From the swift deer to the majestic lion, each animal has its own story to tell. This encounter enables you to foster a deep appreciation for biodiversity and strengthens your understanding of the delicate balance within ecosystems. This privilege to witness wildlife first-hand can be both a humbling and rewarding experience. Whether it’s through the lens of adventure travel, photography, or conservation advocacy, there’s nothing quite like seeing these magnificent creatures and their behaviours in their natural environment. It’s a life-enhancing experience that gives a unique perspective on the world we share with them.

Detailed experience of snorkelling and diving expeditions.

Embarking on snorkelling and scuba diving expeditions is like entering a whole new world. The underwater realm offers an array of awe-inspiring sights. Beneath the surface, vibrant coral reefs become galaxies, teeming with life in every nook and cranny. Schools of multicolored fish dart past, while octopuses camouflage effortlessly amongst the rocks. All your senses are heightened – the salty taste of the ocean, the cool water against your skin, and the faint sound of your regulated breathing. Snorkelling feels like floating in space, softly paddling while peering into another world. Conversely, scuba diving is more immersive. As you venture deeper, the water pressure increases, engulfing you in a tranquil silence. The buoyancy elicits a feeling of weightlessness that is both freeing and serene. Each dive exposes a new layer of this aquatic panorama, making every expedition unique and utterly mesmerizing.

Considerations in selecting the right yacht charter.

Selecting the right yacht charter requires careful consideration to ensure an unforgettable boating experience. Firstly, the type and size of the yacht matter significantly – assets like onboard facilities, cabins, safety measures, and navigational systems, must align with your group’s needs. Secondly, remember to scrutinize the charter company’s reputation and experience in the field. This will assure quality and professional services. Understanding the costs is crucial. Make sure there are no hidden charges, and everything from fuel costs to crew tips is accounted for in your budget. Lastly, route and destination have to be considered. Discuss preferred locations and assess the feasibility of your route with your captain. These considerations will help to ensure a smooth, enjoyable yacht charter experience.

Barcelona, a lively and stunning city, is renowned as both the capital of Catalonia and the home of Gaudi, whose nature-inspired masterpieces of architecture adorn the city. The following is the best Barcelona travel guide and schedule for three days in Barcelona, Spain, including all the information you need to plan the perfect long weekend getaway.

Navigating Barcelona

Hiring a car is something we advise against. In a city with reasonably priced and very dependable public transit, parking may be a hassle, and hiring a car is a waste of money. Nevertheless, here’s your 3-day itinerary to navigate Barcelona:

Day 1: The Gothic District, Boqueria Market, and More

The Gothic District

One of the best ways to start a visit to Barcelona is by seeing the Gothic Quarter, one of the city’s most renowned neighborhoods. Right here, you may find priceless artifacts like the Barcelona Cathedral and several Roman ruins from the city’s two-thousand-year-old Roman name, Barcino.

The Boqueria Market

You should definitely stop by the city’s most renowned covered market, Mercado de la Boqueria, after spending a few hours seeing the Gothic Quarter; you’re sure to be hungry afterward. You may find specialized coffee kiosks, traditional Catalonian tapas, and even vegan options (Falafel Vegano).

Parc de la Ciutadella

You can escape the hustle and bustle of the city center and relax at the Parc de la Ciutadella, one of Barcelona’s green spaces. The Catalonian city also has its own Arc de Triomf, a 19th-century structure located in the park, which may come as a surprise to you.

For Dinner, Try Some Tapas.

Tapas, a traditional Spanish snack, is the perfect way to round off your first day in Barcelona. People can nibble on an assortment of tiny plates with a glass of sangria when enjoying typical Spanish fare.

Day 2: Gaudi Sites

Casa Battlo

Many consider Casa Battlo one of Gaudi’s finest creations. The home of Bones (Casa dels Ossos) is the local name for the home, which was built at Lluís Sala Sánchez’s request because of its peculiar shape and form.

Casa Mila

Casa Mila, also known as La Pedrera or “The Stone Quarry,” is a short stroll from Casa Battlo. Visitors typically need to purchase tickets in advance to spend about an hour exploring this building from the art nouveau era.

Sailing Excursion at Sunset

A boat excursion is a gorgeous way to end the day, as you can view the city and its surroundings from the water. Starting from Port Vell, this boat excursion has excellent reviews and will take you to scenic vantage points overlooking the Mediterranean and Barcelona’s cityscape.

Day 3: Barcelona and Around

Barcelona Waterfront/Foodie Tour/Walking Tour

If you’re a gourmet who hasn’t had your fill of Catalonia’s restaurants, you may arrange a similar excursion. Alternatively, you could just take a stroll down the beachfront around Barcelona and watch the many little boats bob in the Mediterranean.

El Born

When you go back to Barcelona, you’ll have several choices. On the last evening of your three days in Barcelona, hang around in the El Born neighborhood. Its medieval alleys and high-end stores define this hip, happening neighborhood. The Picasso Museum and the Basilica of Santa Maria del Mar are two of the best attractions.

Some Last Words

One of the most enjoyable aspects of a trip to Barcelona is having the opportunity to explore the surrounding area. Consider that the next time you plan a trip itinerary for Barcelona, you should make it at least a week long. There is no doubt that you will be impressed by the breath-taking city and its unparalleled culture.

Located along the southern edge of the Californian Central Coast is the super scenic, Monterey County.  This beautiful seaside city was made famous by writer, John Steinbeck whose novel, Cannery Row was inspired by the renowned, waterfront thoroughfare lined with former sardine factories that is now home to hotels, shops, and restaurants.

What makes Monterey worth a visit is the plethora of things to do.   Whether you are looking for adventure, want to explore the local marine life, enjoy a taste of the local wine or kick back with a book on the beach there is something for everyone.

Just further along Highway 1 (which reopens in April) is the neighbouring town of Carmel-by-the-Sea, a charming picture postcard destination that packs some punch for its size.

Carmel’s romantic cobblestone streets are brimming with art galleries, great places to eat and boutique shops.  The main stretch of road runs from downtown directly to the sugar-white beach.  The town is jam packed with culture, unique backstories and film buffs will also be excited to discover that Clint Eastwood who served as mayor of Carmel resides here, and is often seen dining in Michelin Starred, Aubergine restaurant.

One of the best times to visit is towards the end of summer. It’s less crowded and you can still expect balmy weather.  Start in Carmel before exploring Monterey Bay and the surrounding area.

Where to stay

Just a stone’s throw from the beach and a short stroll from the shops and restaurants, is the Carmel Beach Hotel.  The hotel opened in 2023 and is one of six new boutique hotels in the town.  The vibe here is laid back luxury, this intimate property has just 26 rooms and three suites.  My room was contemporary and spacious, with fresh whitewashed walls and bedding with accents of marine blue taking inspiration from the ocean.  The large bathrooms comprise of double vanity units, shower and a free-standing roll top bath.  There’s a pretty courtyard restaurant, cocktail bar, spa and gym.  The staff are friendly and deliver a personal seamless service you don’t get from big faceless chains.  During my stay I was running late for a dinner reservation and the manager personally drove me to a local restaurant.

The breakfast here is fabulous, both mornings I had it delivered to my room.  A cute basket of continental delights are served alongside your preferred hot dish.  The eggs were cooked to perfection, toast still warm and bacon crispy.

The location makes it ideal for sunset walks and picnics on the beach.

The Monterey Plaza Hotel & Spa sits on stilts directly above the crashing surf of the Pacific and in the prime location of Cannery Row.  The hotel is plush with lots of polished marble, soft carpet, dark wood and large ceiling to floor windows that look out over the bay.  The rooms are spacious and have a similar classic design and décor that continues throughout the hotel.

When it comes to dining you are spoiled for choice.  There’s lobby café’s, excellent room service and for more casual cuisine guest can head to Schooners, there’s a heated deck and uninterrupted views of the ocean.   The menu includes classic American staples making it the perfect choice for breakfast or a light bite. Coastal Kitchen offers fine dining.  Executive Chef Michael Rotondo serves an ever-evolving tasting menu that showcases the culinary treasures from the region.

The adult only spa is decadent retreat for those looking to relax after a day exploring.  Located on the roof, with dramatic panoramic views from the sundeck, there are two outdoor hot tubs, a steam room and indoor sauna. There is also a gym.

Eat and drink

Chez Noir’s French inspired menu showcases innovative, seafood-centric dishes that have earned them a well-deserved Michelin star.  The menu boasts a fusion of flavours, from tantalizing appetizers to decadent desserts. Highlights include their perfectly seared scallops and the melt-in-your-mouth chocolate fondant. The staff’s knowledge and passion for each dish add a personal touch, making Chez Noir a must-visit for those who appreciate culinary artistry.

Lucia restaurant at Bernardus Lodge and Spa is nothing short of spectacular.  Situated in the Carmel Valley it’s nestled on the grounds of rolling vineyards, olive orchards and 28 acres of fragrant lavender.  With beautiful vistas, tables at Lucia are sought after.  Slick service and a menu dedicated to delicious farm to table fare is what sets Lucia apart from other restaurants.  The wood brick pizzas are divine, the seasonal salads are served like a work of art and the larger plates source prime cuts of meat and market fish. Choose from a selection of wines from the Bernardus vineyard to accompany your meal.

For a seafood feast that celebrates the bounty of the ocean, Salt Wood Kitchen & Oysterette is the place to be. This award-winning upscale seafood restaurant is a short drive from Monterey Bay, and exudes coastal charm with a menu that pays homage to the region’s maritime heritage. The raw bar is a standout, featuring an array of oysters and an abundance of seafood. The wood-fired grill adds a smoky richness to dishes like the grilled octopus and honey glazed duck. The casual yet sophisticated atmosphere, coupled with the welcoming staff, makes Salt Wood Kitchen & Oysterette a go-to spot for those craving a seafood extravaganza.

What to do

While staying in Monterey you must pay a visit to the Monterey Bay Aquarium who are celebrating their 40th anniversary in October.  Here, you can see leopard sharks meander through kelp forests and sea turtles bobbing amongst schools of colourful fish.  Floor to ceiling tanks span two floors at one of the largest aquarium exhibits in the world.  There are interactive experiences, a variety of behind-the-scenes tours (some of which allow visitors to feed penguins) and touch pools, where you can get close to sea cucumbers, bat rays and tide-pool creatures.  This is no run of the mill aquarium, and it’s easy to see why it’s one of the biggest tourist attractions in the region, it showcases more than 35,000 animals and plants representing over 550 species.

Embark on a wine adventure like no other with Kombi Wine Tours, where vintage style meets exquisite vintages. Board the classic VW Kombi, ‘Sweet Pickle’ and journey through the scenic vineyards and wineries of Monterey, indulging in a curated selection of wines from the region. You’ll be collected from your hotel by their knowledgeable guide, Steve who will keep you entertained with the inside track on all things Monterey.  Expect to stop off at some of the finest wineries along the coast, make sure you call in to Galante Vineyards tasting room to see Jack!

Monterey Bay is California’s best location for viewing whales, great white sharks and spotting an abundance of marine life including dolphins, jellyfish and sea lions.  Discovery Whale Watch trips depart from Fisherman’s Wharf daily and the team onboard are the best in business for spotting and guaranteeing whale sightings.   The three-hour tour is an extraordinary experience that allows you to get up close to these amazing creatures, I got to witness a humpback breech and a pod of dolphins escorted our boat out of the bay.   Throughout the trip the crew tee up sightings, impart knowledge and facts with passion, ensuring you have a memorable experience.

Australia’s landscape can only be described as richly interwoven with its history, culture, and natural beauty. And there is simply no better way to experience it than through the winding paths of its historic highways. If you’re also planning to If you’re also planning to road trip through the country, we more than recommend taking its heritage routes, with iconic landmarks and landscapes along the way. Immerse yourself in the stories of the past, while revelling in the scenic beauty of the present!

Preparations, Preservation, and Heritage

Australia is an excellent place for a road trip thanks not only to its sheer vastness but also to amazing landscapes. Thanks to that, locals, even small towns, usually have a caravan park, glamping locations, petrol stations and open arms for everyone passing through. Make sure you’re well-prepared for your trip before setting off and take all important documents such as your Australian visa if you’re a UK citizen, your passport, insurance, and other relevantdocuments – and have the national emergency number saved up (which is 000!).

It’s also important to appreciate the efforts to preserve and protect Australia’s heritage for future generations. And if you’re planning a trip toward or alongside them – you’ll become part of this effort. From conservation initiatives to heritage-listed landmarks, the routes below serve as reminders of Australia’s past and provide fantastic opportunities for education, reflection, and appreciation of the diverse cultures and landscapes that define its identity. So please be careful, considerate and sustainable during your visit!

The Great Ocean Road

But now – onwards to our journey. We start along the Great Ocean Road, one of Australia’s most iconic routes. Why? Well, it stretches along Victoria’s stunning coastline, and you could follow it if you wanted to, all the way from Portland to Melbourne. This route offers rugged cliffs, amazing beaches, ancient rainforests – and a whole bunch of incredibly fantastic stops along the way. How about the towering limestone stacks of the Twelve Apostles? The lush Otway Ranges? Or just some breathtaking vistas of the Southern Ocean crashing against the shore? Yep, it has it all.

Exploring the Red Centre

Let’s just preface this with the fact that we think the “Red Centre” is an absolutely fantasticname. It’s the heart of Australia’s outback, of course, and it is where ancient landscapes and the Aboriginal culture converge. The Red Centre Way is a massive, vast expanse – so make sure you are well-prepared. Once you’re here, you’ll be able to marvel at things like Uluru, Kata Tjuta, and Kings Canyon. There are a lot of sacred places with high spiritual significance here – and learning about the Aboriginal heritage before you get here is highly recommended.

The Convict Trail of Tasmania

You’ll also be able to step into the footsteps of Australia’s early settlers along the Convict Trail of Tasmania. It’s a route steeped in tales of hardship, resilience, and redemption – and a lot of the stops alongside the trail will tell them. It’s the island’s colonial past you can journey through here, passing quaint towns, rugged wilderness, and convict-built landmarks, such as the Port Arthur Historic Site. It’s a truly beautiful route, untamed, featuring mist-shrouded forests and untouched coastlines alike.

The Legendary Oodnadatta Track

And last but not least, we got the legendary off-road adventure in the arid landscapes of the South Australian Outback – the Oodnadatta Track. A four-wheeler is definitely required for this one and you are going to be rewarded with remote desert plains, ancient Aboriginal trade routes, and iconic outback towns. These are the footsteps of explorers and pioneers you’ll be following – be prepared for historic railway sidings, natural springs, and Aboriginal rock art sides hidden amidst the rugged beauty of the Australian outback.

If tasked with finding someone who loves Switzerland more than our Editor in Chief does, you’d be searching for quite a while. With 12 visits to the country already, Laura Bartlett’s passion for exploring Switzerland shows no signs of waning. Each visit presents something new, and her latest adventure was no exception. During her three-day stay at Hotel Adula in Flims, Laax, Laura immersed herself in a magical experience, solidifying Switzerland’s position as her top favourite destination. Here’s her lowdown…

Each time I board a flight bound for Switzerland, I find myself contemplating whether it might be my final visit to the country. I question whether my love affair with Switzerland might eventually fade, if I’ll reach a point where I feel I’ve explored all it has to offer.

Yet, the moment the plane touches down on the runway, with the majestic view of the Swiss Alps surrounding me, I quickly dismiss those ludicrous thoughts. It becomes clear to me that this could never be the end of my journey here. There is something that lures me back time and time again and honestly, I’m not mad about it!

Touching down at Zurich airport, I embarked on a journey that always manages to take my breath away. Jumping aboard a couple of seamless trains, I ventured through the picturesque Swiss countryside, bound for Chur because it really is about the journey and not just the destination.

While some folks swear by therapy, for me, Switzerland is my ultimate soul-soother. There’s something about the crisp mountain air and the serene beauty of the landscape that instantly hits the reset button on my soul. And let me tell you, this trip promised to be no exception to the rule.

Checking in

This time, I found myself headed back to the enchanting area of Flims, Laax – a place that seems to beckon me with its irresistible charm every time. Checking in to Hotel Adula, I was all set in my oasis of wellbeing in the heart of Flims ready for three days to disconnect from the world, unplug from technology and reconnect with myself and nature. Aka, pure bliss.

Ah, Hotel Adula, where history meets hospitality in the heart of the Grisons mountain landscape! As someone who never quite fancied themselves a history buff, I was unexpectedly captivated by the rich tapestry woven into the very walls of this 140-year-old gem.

Nestled on the sunny (or snowy) slope of Flims, this charming establishment has been extending its warm Swiss welcome for over a century. With 93 spacious rooms and suites, 2 tantalising restaurants (I’ll get to them later), a lounge and bar beckoning with tales of laughter and camaraderie, and not to forget, their weekly DJ who offers nothing but good vibes and great beats.

Where it all began

But let’s rewind to where it all began, shall we?

In the quaint year of 1890, the Kurhaus Adula, as it was then known, opened its doors to the first wave of curious travellers seeking respite in the summer months. Back then, it was all about basking in the warmth of the season. But oh, how swiftly the tides of demand changed with the advent of winter sports and the lure of adventure! Soon, the clinking of skis and the laughter of snow enthusiasts echoed through the corridors.

Fast forward to 1939, and guests were still being whisked up the mountain on transport sledges. Can you imagine the thrill of that journey? By 1945, the pioneering spirit of the region reached new heights with the inauguration of the first detachable chairlift from Flims to Foppa – a game-changer in the world of alpine exploration.

But the Hotel Adula didn’t just witness history; it played an integral role in shaping it. With each passing year, the main building expanded, evolving to meet the ever-growing demands of its discerning guests.

Right up to this very moment, the Hotel Adula has stood as an emblem of enduring grace and unmatched quality. With their most recent refurbishment sparking whispers of further enhancements on the horizon, it’s clear that they’re not just keeping up with the times but setting the pace in their industry.

The Rooms

My first two nights were spent in the cosy comfort of a Lodge Room, which was already magical enough. However, it was my final night in the 1001 Steilas suite that truly stole the show, transforming this already stellar 4-star hotel into a celestial oasis. This truly takes glamping to a whole new level.

As I awoke from a night of blissful slumber, with a gentle tug on the canopy, I pulled it back, revealing a sight that left me breathless.

Before me stretched an awe-inspiring panorama of mountains bathed in the soft hues of dawn. The sun, a golden orb rising majestically over the horizon, cast its radiant glow upon the snow-capped peaks, painting the sky with a palette of colours so vivid and vibrant that it seemed almost surreal.

In that moment, as I stood transfixed by the sheer magnificence of nature’s canvas unfolding before me, I felt an overwhelming sense of gratitude and awe wash over me. It was a sunrise unlike any I had ever witnessed before – a dance of light and colour that seemed to tip toe across the sky, filling me with a profound sense of wonder and reverence for the world around me.

As I lingered there, basking in the warmth of the morning sun and drinking in the breathtaking beauty of the mountains, I knew that this was a moment I would carry with me always. It was a reminder of the incredible power and majesty of the natural world, and a testament to the transformative magic of Hotel Adula’s 1001 Steilas suite. Gosh, let me tell you, it was an experience that went way beyond the usual hotel stay and etched itself right into my heart and soul.

Where to eat

At Hotel Adula, dining isn’t just about filling your belly – it’s a journey for your taste buds that spans continents! With two exquisite restaurants to choose from, you’ll embark on a culinary adventure that will leave you craving more.

As someone who was dining solo, I was enthralled by the endless books on the shelves throughout Adula Kitchen and bar, giving me something to read in between my moments of people watching. The restaurant gives off a ‘home away from home’ vibe and you can’t help but relax like you’re in the comfort of your own living room. The only thing missing were my slippers!

(Top tip, order the affogato. It’s not officially on the menu but if you ask the team nicely they will whisk up their own concoction of my favourite dessert. Thank me later.)

Now, let’s shift our focus to La Muña – a place where Japanese and Peruvian cuisine come together in a delightful fusion of flavours. Prepare your taste buds for a mouthwatering journey like no other as diverse ingredients from Europe meld seamlessly with Japanese and Peruvian techniques.

From delicate ceviche to mouthwatering teriyaki beef tenderloin infused with truffles, each dish is a work of art designed for sharing (whatever sharing means). And the name? It’s inspired by a Peruvian plant known for alleviating altitude sickness – a fitting tribute to the adventurous spirit that permeates every bite.

Nab the table near the crackling open fire, and you’re all set for a delightfully cosy evening, with prime viewing of the chef in action in the open kitchen. Witness with awe as the chef works his culinary sorcery, turning basic ingredients into gastronomic masterpieces right before your very eyes.

Location, location, location

Hotel Adula could not have a better location if they tried. Flims is like Mother Nature’s treasure chest, bursting with wonders waiting to be discovered and everything is within walking distance from the hotel. One of the wonders is Lake Caumasee, the crown jewel of Flims, also known as ‘Lag la Cauma’ in the charming Romansh tongue, which translates to the whimsical ‘lake siesta’.

Whether you’re up for a splash, a chill-out session, or catching some rays, this stunning lake has got you covered! If you’re strolling on foot or pedalling away on your bike, a pit stop at this majestic oasis is an absolute must for your itinerary. The lake is surrounded by lush forest on three sides, with a cosy wooded island smack bang in the middle, where tranquility reigns supreme.

During my evening meal on my final night, one of the staff members, Branko Čavić, regaled me with tales of early morning swims in the pristine lake. His enthusiasm was contagious, and despite the chilly prospect of snow, I found myself agreeing to the adventure. The next morning, as the sun timidly peeked over the horizon, I plunged into the icy waters, the snowflakes dancing around me like delicate ballerinas. It was a surreal moment, one that will stay with me forever.

Branko’s infectious spirit and his insistence on seizing the moment turned an ordinary day into an extraordinary adventure, reminding me of the magic that happens when we embrace the unexpected.

It also reiterated my love for travel, knowing that exploring new destinations opens up the possibility to meet people from all walks of life, fostering connections and enriching experiences that I wouldn’t have encountered otherwise.

So ‘proscht’ to Branko, the unsung hero of my Swiss escapade, for making my visit truly special and unforgettable.

What I experienced in my three days at Hotel Adula was more than just a fleeting moment – it’s a testament to the enduring allure of this remarkable hotel. And as I bid adieu to this slice of heaven on earth, I knew one thing for sure: my love affair with the Hotel Adula had only just begun.

Traveling is more than just ticking off places on a bucket list; it’s about embracing the unknown, pushing your boundaries, and discovering the beauty of the world and yourself along the way. In this article, we’ll delve into how you can unleash your travel potential and go the extra mile for new adventures. Get ready to step out of your comfort zone and embark on a journey of self-discovery and exploration like never before.

The Mindset of Exploration

Embracing Curiosity

Traveling with an open mind and a curious spirit is the key to unlocking new adventures. Instead of sticking to familiar paths, allow yourself to wander off the beaten track and embrace the unknown. Whether it’s trying exotic street food in a bustling market or striking up a conversation with a local, embracing curiosity will lead to unexpected discoveries and unforgettable experiences.

Overcoming Fear

It’s natural to feel apprehensive about stepping out of your comfort zone, but fear should never hold you back from exploring the world. Take small steps to overcome your fears, whether it’s by booking a solo trip to a new destination or trying an adrenaline-pumping activity like skydiving or rock climbing. Remember, the magic happens outside of your comfort zone.

Embracing Uncertainty

One of the most beautiful aspects of travel is the element of surprise. Embrace spontaneity and be open to the unexpected twists and turns that come your way. Whether it’s stumbling upon a hidden gem or getting lost in a maze-like alleyway, the best memories often come from moments of uncertainty.

Planning for Adventure

Researching Destinations

While it’s tempting to stick to popular tourist hotspots, don’t be afraid to venture off the beaten path and explore lesser-known destinations. Do your research and seek out hidden gems that offer unique experiences and authentic cultural encounters. Additionally, consider the practical aspects of travel, such as transportation and accommodations. For example, when planning your trip, it’s essential to consider the best credit cards with car rental insurance. Many credit cards offer this benefit, providing coverage for rental cars and offering peace of mind while exploring new destinations. By choosing a credit card with car rental insurance, you can enjoy added protection and savings during your travels.

Flexibility in Itinerary

While it’s essential to have a rough itinerary in place, leave room for spontaneity and serendipitous discoveries along the way. Instead of meticulously planning every minute of your trip, allow yourself to go with the flow and embrace unexpected opportunities that arise. Whether it’s extending your stay in a charming town or joining a local festival, flexibility is the key to unlocking new adventures. Additionally, when booking accommodations and transportation, consider the benefits offered by various credit cards, including rewards programs, travel insurance, and perks like car rental insurance. Choosing the right credit card can enhance your travel experience and provide valuable benefits that make your journey even more enjoyable.

Adventure Activities

No adventure is complete without a dose of adrenaline. Whether you’re an avid hiker, a water sports enthusiast, or a thrill-seeker looking for your next challenge, there’s no shortage of adventure activities to try around the world. From trekking through lush rainforests to diving with sharks in crystal-clear waters, the possibilities are endless. So why not step out of your comfort zone and embark on the adventure of a lifetime?

Immersive Cultural Experiences

Connecting with Locals

One of the most rewarding aspects of travel is the opportunity to connect with people from different cultures and backgrounds. Take the time to interact with locals and immerse yourself in the local way of life. Whether it’s sharing a meal with a host family, participating in a traditional ceremony, or learning a few phrases in the local language, forging genuine connections with locals will enrich your travel experience and broaden your perspective.

Homestays and Alternative Accommodations

While luxury resorts and five-star hotels have their appeal, consider alternative accommodations such as homestays, guesthouses, or eco-lodges for a more authentic and immersive experience. Not only will you get a glimpse into the daily lives of locals, but you’ll also have the opportunity to support small-scale tourism initiatives and contribute to the local economy.

Learning Local Customs and Traditions

Respect for local customs and traditions is essential when traveling to a new destination. Take the time to familiarize yourself with the local culture, customs, and etiquette before you go. Whether it’s dressing modestly in conservative countries or observing cultural norms during religious festivals, showing respect for local customs will enhance your travel experience and leave a positive impression on the communities you visit.

Pushing Personal Boundaries

Stepping Out of Comfort Zones

Traveling is all about pushing your boundaries and stepping out of your comfort zone. Whether it’s trying exotic foods, conquering your fear of heights, or navigating unfamiliar terrain, challenge yourself to try new things and embrace the unknown. You’ll be amazed at what you’re capable of when you push past your limits and embrace the spirit of adventure.

Overcoming Language Barriers

While language barriers can be intimidating, don’t let them hold you back from immersing yourself in a new culture. Learn a few basic phrases in the local language, invest in a translation app, or simply rely on non-verbal communication to bridge the gap. You’ll be surprised at how much you can communicate with a smile, a gesture, or a simple nod of the head.

Growth Through Adversity

Traveling isn’t always smooth sailing, and that’s part of the beauty of it. Embrace challenges and setbacks as opportunities for growth and learning. Whether it’s getting lost in a foreign city, dealing with a missed flight, or navigating cultural misunderstandings, every obstacle you overcome will make you stronger, more resilient, and more adaptable in the face of adversity.

Sustainable and Responsible Travel

Environmental Conservation

As travelers, it’s our responsibility to minimize our environmental impact and protect the natural beauty of the destinations we visit. Reduce your carbon footprint by choosing eco-friendly transportation options, conserving water and energy, and supporting sustainable tourism initiatives that prioritize environmental conservation.

Cultural Respect and Preservation

Responsible tourism goes beyond environmental conservation; it also involves respecting and preserving the cultural heritage of the communities we visit. Take the time to learn about the history, customs, and traditions of the places you visit, and show respect for local customs and cultural practices. By traveling responsibly, you can help preserve the cultural identity and heritage of the destinations you love.

Supporting Local Communities

One of the most significant ways we can make a positive impact as travelers is by supporting local communities and economies. Choose locally-owned accommodations, restaurants, and tour operators, and opt for souvenirs and products that are ethically sourced and produced. By investing in local businesses and initiatives, you can help empower communities, create sustainable livelihoods, and foster positive social change.

Conclusion

In conclusion, traveling is a transformative journey that has the power to enrich our lives, broaden our horizons, and connect us with the world around us. By embracing curiosity, pushing our boundaries, and traveling responsibly, we can unleash our full travel potential and embark on adventures that will leave a lasting impact on our lives and the world. So why wait? Take the first step towards your next great adventure, and let the journey begin!

Kintsugi is a new global wellness brand, drawing inspiration from the ancient Japanese art of repairing ceramics with gold and with the intention to raise frequencies for increased joyful and healthy lives. The first Kintsugi Space launched in Al Reem Island, Abu Dhabi, in November 2023, an entirely new concept for the destination. This will be followed by online membership and the launch of the lifestyle product line in 2024 and other exciting spaces internationally.

To experience the magic of Kintsugi first-hand, Team Coco’ very own Hannah Tan-Gillies ventured into bustling Charlotte Street to get a taste of what the innovative wellness concept has to offer.

Kintsugi, led by the gentle genius of acclaimed spa creative Patrizia Bortolin is all about inspiring people to embrace their imperfections, while being surrounded in a new kind of luxury. During the London event, Patrizia, who is also the founder of the Glowing Flow Spa Consultancy, was recognised by The New York Times for her work at Preidlhof Luxury DolceVita Retreat* and celebrated by Conde Nast Traveller as creating the ‘Best Life Changing Spa Experience’.

She brings all this goodness to the Kintsugi experience, which adeptly combines ancient Eastern healing techniques with modern Western methodologies based on a holistic approach of wellness using innovative Quantum Healing methods.

What is Quantum Healing you say? Well it is an ethos that is based on the premise that our thoughts and intentions can have a powerful influence on our health and wellbeing, to bring the body and mind into a state of balance and harmony. It involves the application of quantum principles to a holistic, integrated wellbeing approach. At its core, it leverages the idea that particles exhibit both wave and energy properties in the human body and when this energy is in equilibrium, the body can heal itself.

Patrizia leads a team of experts including celebrity Facialist Anastasia Achielleos who is a Kintsugi Wellness Community Ambassador focused on fascial wellness and high consciousness. She is also joined by famed Italian architect Emanuela Beneneddeti who created the Kintsugi space in Al Reem Island, Abu Dhabi.

The Kintsugi method guides its members towards a new, higher frequency where life feels more joyful and nourishing. Laughing and crying are both welcome, a celebration of the body is encouraged through dancing, massage, community and purifying. It also stimulates the mind to create healthy routines, change perspectives, think less and observe more, care for details and rituals and appreciate the beauty all around.

Situated on the sought after Al Reem Island in Abu Dhabi, the seven-floor pale pink building houses a wellness space exclusively for female members (unlike other aspects of the brand which are open to all). In addition to 3, 6 and 11 months membership options, there is also a six-day retreat offering, with membership existing for the duration of the programme, as well as an international membership for four days a year*. Kintsugi partners with Ember Lifestyle Travel for all arrangements to ensure an unforgettable and seamless wellness retreat.

Our intrepid doggy rePAWter has been travelling all over the UK sniffing out the very best dog-friendly hotels across the country’s most idyllic towns.

From majestic dog friendly manor houses to cosy cottages and luxurious five-star retreats, TeamCocopup Charlie has been, seen and sniffed them all. We’ve rounded up a few of his favourites, all within two hours driving distance from London.

The Mitre Hampton Court

Beautifully illuminated in fairy lights, you’ll see the façade of Mitre Hampton Court from a mile away. This characterful dog friendly boutique hotel is as eccentric as it is cosy. Art is everywhere in this 17th-century Grade II listed hotel, from the illustrated map of surrey to playful portraits of King Henry dotted throughout.

Led by Chef Ronnie Kimbugwe, the gorgeous riverside 1665 restaurant offers British classics with an eclectic twist. Breakfast is served at The Boathouse, where you can enjoy a nice cuppa while overlooking the Thames. The plant bowl is delish, but so too are the classic Eggs Benedict and Full English options. Almost all restaurants in Mitre Hampton Court have dedicated areas where you doggy can dine with you – which obviously gives it plus points from me and Charlie.

We stayed in the Thames View suite, which as the name suggests, has incredible riverside views. A gorgeous red patterned wallpaper decorates the space, while a handsome freestanding bath is a clear focal point. Designed by Nicola Harding, the room was spacious, colourful and appropriately festive.

There was a dog bed, dog bowls, dog toys and dog treats for Charlie too – who of course loved all the special treatment.

So – whether you are ‘In The Tub’ or ‘Out to Court’ (playful door signs which feature King Henry and Queen Charlotte respectively), there is certainly plenty to love at Mitre Hampton Court. We think it may even be the best festive dog friendly staycation this side of the Thames.

Hotel du Vin Cheltenham

Pat of the Hotel du Vin Group and Fraser’s Hospitality, Hotel du Vin Cheltenham occupies a beautiful building in Cheltenham’s chic Montpellier district. Picture handsome Regency-era mansions, and tree-lined crescents that look like they could’ve been lifted off the set of Bridgerton.

There are 49 individually designed bedrooms and suites, which have undergone a recent (and extensive) refurb to capture the rustic allure of country living, while still celebrating the English Heritage style of the Hotel du Vin collection.

This fabulously dog friendly hotel is centred around a sprawling bar and restaurant and of course – an impressive wine cellar. (After all – a Hotel du Vin would not be complete without a healthy array of vintages that would impress even the most discerning wine connoisseur).

We stayed in the sprawling De Trafford Suite, which is as impressive as it sounds. Occupying the square footage of what seems like an entire London terraced house; the suite features vibrant decoupage wallcoverings with English antique prints that are equal parts eclectic, joyful and tim

Burleigh Court

Burleigh Court is a chic four-star dog friendly boutique manor hotel, housed in a Grade II listed manor, that is surrounded by captivating Cotswolds countryside in Stroud. The hotel, which has one of the most beautiful views of Stroud’s Golden Valley, foregoes the sometimes stuffy environs of other manor house hotels and instead opts for a vibe that is elegant, warm and inviting. Imagine staying in one of the lush country manors ala Bridgerton – minus all the pomp and circumstance.

The best thing about Burleigh Court? It is that it is fabulously dog friendly. TeamCocopup Charlie was welcomed in most of the public spaces, with a dedicated area for doggy diners in the restaurant too. He absolutely loved exploring Burleigh Court’s expansive grounds and going on leisurely walks in the surrounding countryside.

Burleigh Court has 18, individually designed rooms with pet-friendly accommodation available in an adjacent coach house. Our room was incredibly spacious tastefully designed and ideally located in front of the grounds – perfect for late night doggy business. There was a dog bed, dog bowls and some treats too – which Charlie more than appreciated. The room décor was a love letter to Cotswolds charm and featured plenty of well-loved knick knacks, rich tapestries and even a delightful wall mural.

From the warm hospitality of the staff, delicious food and beautiful Cotswolds countryside – there’s no better way to recharge than in this magical Cotswolds hideaway. When life once again gets away from us, we shall certainly be back.

The Bradley Hare

Located in the wildly picturesque grounds of the Duke of Somerset’s estate, The Bradley Hare benefits from and is inspired by the gorgeous pastoral landscapes that surround it. The rooms, which are warmed by roaring fires in the winter months, have been designed by James Thurstan Waterworth, ex-European Design Director of Soho House.

While boasting some handsome 18th and 19th-century furnishings, each of the 12 individually-designed bedrooms exude a muted yet contemporary vibe, elevating the rural chic interiors. Picture glorious free-standing baths, Egyptian cotton sheets, Siberian goose down duvets and a colourful array of contemporary artwork – that is exactly the aesthetic at The Bradley Hare.

We stayed in one of the five generously-sized dog friendly bedrooms in the Coach House. Opposite the pub and with plenty of space to roam, these gorgeous farmhouse style rooms are the perfect place to relax and unwind amidst the sounds and scenery of the great British countryside.

Guests who are staying at The Bradley Hare can expect a complimentary continental breakfast, which exceeded our expectations of continental meals. While hot breakfasts incurred an additional charge, the continental, which offered delicious homemade granola, pain au chocolate, ham, fresh juices, coffees and freshly-baked sourdough with homemade jams and yoghurts will soon make you forget about the lack of a full English.

Dittisham Hideaway

Dittisham Hideaway offers quirky, cosy dog firendly self-catering accommodation that will blow away all your glamping holiday expectations. The newly launched Shepherd’s Lodges are exactly as how you’d imagine them to be but have all the quintessential luxury amenities of any De Savary property.

They are made by West Country Artisans, offering beautiful views of the wooded valley below. At 234sq ft, they are spacious while still giving off cosy vibes. Each one has a large outdoor private terrace, complete with an outdoor wood-fired spa bath . There are also Adirondack loungers, a teak dining table and parasols perfect for enjoying a leisurely summer afternoon with friends.

Inside there are Egyptian cotton sheets, a welcome hamper full of locally sourced treats and breakfast supplies. The Shepherd’s Lodges feature wonderfully decorated interiors that are warm and stylish. They also come equipped with very spacious bathrooms (a rarity in most Shepherd’s Huts accommodations).

There was a Sophie Alport dog bed for a perfect night’s rest, dog bowls, and a full doggy welcome package for Charlie. This included everything from dog treats to poo bags, squeaky toys and a guide to the best countryside walks in the surrounding area. There is also a communal games barn – perfect for playing chess or table tennis during rainy days in the Devonshire countryside.

Just a one hour and thirty minute train journey away from Paddington is the lovely Hotel du Vin Cheltenham; a glorious home-from-home in the beautiful regency era town of Cheltenham.

We stayed in the sprawling De Trafford Suite, which is as impressive as it sounds. Occupying the square footage of what seems like an entire London terraced house; the suite features vibrant decoupage wallcoverings with English antique prints that are equal parts eclectic, joyful and timeless.

A rich tapestry inspired by Mulberry Home’s flying ducks’ prints, inspire colour scheme of the room, which blends duck egg blue with sage green and bright orange accents. There is of course, a large king sized bed complete with headboard by Colefax and Fowler, a meticulously preserved wooden mantlepiece; and a newly refurbished bathroom with tiles form Solus ceramics.

There are plenty of creature comforts too. Handsprung mattresses, fine Egyptian linens, plasma TVs and a handsome rolltop bath, which is a thing of beauty and the perfect spot to relax after a day of exploring.

There is also a completely separate seating area; perfect for getting lost in a good book or film. For Charlie, we were greeted with a comfy dog bed, dog bowls and doggy care package complete with snacks and tennis ball (his favourite). So – he truly did feel like four-legged VIP from the moment we check in.

Not every space is dog friendly though, which is worth noting. But even if the main Bistro du Vin restaurant isn’t dog friendly per se, pet travellers can enjoy a delicious meal at Hotel du Vin Cheltenham upstairs in one of two lounge areas or at the bar.

Guests who are staying in one of Hotel du Vin’s inclusive packages can enjoy three course meals as part of their stay. Certain dishes though like the steaks, scallops and beef bourguignonne come with added supplements, but with most dishes priced below £20 – the entire menu Bistro du Vin’s menu is fabulously affordable.

Beyond the Hotel du Vin, Cheltenham has plenty to explore for pet friendly travellers. There are plenty of charming cafes and restaurants, and glorious parks that are within walking distance from the hotel – perfect for a day out in the sun with your pup. A lot of the cute boutiques, complete with stylish knick knacks, are pet friendly too. There are also a few noteworthy National Heritage Houses and the always enjoyable Cotswolds Wildlife Park which are within a short drive away.

Overall, if you’re looking for an idyllic slow weekend getaway with your four-legged pooch, look no further than the Hotel du Vin. Excellent service, luxurious rooms and a delectable menu of food and wine, Hotel du Vin is a veritable home away from home in the heart of Cheltenham and we shall surely be returning.

A 1-night stay at Hotel du Vin Cheltenham costs from £110 in March. Book online at https://www.hotelduvin.com/locations/cheltenham/

With the demands of the digital world forever forcing their way in to our lives, we are all craving time away from our devices more than ever. Where better to get away from the noise of online than a night at Hoar Cross Hall. Nestled within thousands of acres of Staffordshire countryside, our Editor in Chief Laura Bartlett explored…

Nothing says ‘perfect girls day out’ more than a visit to the spa. Especially if the spa on your hit list is Hoar Cross Hall. This puts most spas in the UK to shame, think of a spa you have visited that has the most facilities and then times that by ten and you won’t even come close to what Hoar Cross Hall has to offer.

The minute I drove in to their driveway, which is glistening with fairy lights, I knew we were in for a treat. I was visiting with our Interiors Editor Siobhan Murphy and there’s always one guarantee when we are together and that is lots of giggles. They don’t call us the cackling fish wives for nothing!

We arrived late afternoon and we headed straight to our room to get ready for dinner. I say room, it was so big I wouldn’t have been surprised if it had its own postcode. Think two floors, landing area, chandelier, two beds and an entire rooftop area with a hot tub. That’s before you even step foot in to the bathroom. Sign me up!

After snapping a few photos in our not so humble abode, we headed down to The Ballroom for dinner. Now we could have easily been mistaken for being on board the Titanic because this room was so grand, it definitely felt like something out of a movie scene. Fortunately, it was less sink and more swim when it came to this dining experience though. The AA Rosette-awarded restaurant has well and truly earned their stripes. The treacle cured ham with yuzu curd is a winner all day long and you’ll not get food envy if you follow that up with the breast of Staffordshire chicken because the chorizo crumb with charred corn, tender stem and gnocchi will have you wanting seconds.

We skipped out on dessert because you know, self control and all that. Instead, we headed back to our suite and laughed our heads off with a private hot tub party for two. There was a robotic owl perched on the ledge which added an element of surprise slash fear so don’t say I didn’t warn you!

After laughing our way in to the night we were well and truly tucked up and in bed by 11pm like the adults that we are, the earlier to bed then the earlier to rise and enjoy the facilities, that’s my motto. I was up bright eyed and bushy tailed (quite like the owl from the night before) and in the gym by 7am. I’ve seen a lot of hotel gyms in my time but very few that offer what Hoar Cross Hall does. It has every machine you can imagine and I was very quickly reminded that the devil is real and he’s called the StairMaster.

Workout complete, Siobhan came to join me and we headed for breakfast before spending the rest of the day like a pair of sloths moving through the spa at the slowest possible pace so that we could savour every moment.

This is a spa on steroids, it’s an adults playground and the ultimate destination to disappear from the world and cater to all of your senses. From the sights of the tranquil Sanctum, to the smells of the spa shop selling Elemis products, the touch of the water in the saltwater pools and the taste of the food across their different restaurants. I am not exaggerating when I say that you could spend an entire week here and still discover something new. After having our treatments (one word, divine), we hung out in the Snooze Room before whiling away the entire afternoon in a constant state of zen.

The entire 24 hour experience was truly faultless. The staff were all super pleasant and helpful, the facilities were endless, the food was delectable and I guess the company wasn’t bad either!

When it comes to spa hotels, Hoar Cross Hall is the GOAT! The only problem is, if you stay here, one night just isn’t enough.

Hoar Cross Hall is an award-winning Hotel and Spa located in rural Staffordshire. Set within 43 acres of beautiful English countryside, the hotel boasts one of the largest state-of-the-art spas in Europe, 104 stylish suites and bedrooms, spectacular grounds, and decadent dining at its AA Rosette-awarded restaurant, The Ballroom.

From £139 per person, bookings for Dinner, Bed and Breakfast can be made here.
