Other cuisines include Italian, Gourmet, and Asian.
As part of the Yact Club, you can take a trip to the private island Ammoulliani. Enjoying the Mediterranean views along the way, while taking in the crisp sea air and discovering new islands. When it comes to electrical safety, it’s essential to understand the diverse range of hazards that can pose a risk in residential and commercial settings. These hazards include electric shocks, electrocution, fires, and explosions, stemming from issues like faulty wiring, damaged electrical supplies, or improper device usage. By familiarizing ourselves with these hazards and implementing preventive measures, we can ensure the safety of individuals working with or around electricity. In this article, we will explore common electrical hazards, provide guidance on identification, and offer effective solutions to address them, prioritizing safety in electrical environments.
Types of Electrical Hazards
1. Electrical Shock
Electrical shock is no joke. It’s a seriously dangerous hazard that can mess you up or even take your life. When an electric current flows through your body, it messes with your normal electrical signals and can wreck your tissues. You can get zapped by touching a live wire or a busted appliance directly, or indirectly through something conductive like water.
The effects of electrical shock can be all over the place, from a little tingle to nasty burns, muscle spasms, and even your heart-stopping. Certain factors amp up the risk, like being exposed to high voltage, working in wet conditions, or hanging out near conductive stuff. So, don’t play around with electrical hazards. Make sure you’re using equipment that’s got proper insulation and steer clear of live wires and other electrical sources.
2. Electrical Burns
Electrical burns are a serious consequence of coming into contact with an electrical source. The severity of the burn depends on factors such as the amount and duration of current flow, as well as the path it takes through the body.
These burns can result in various injuries, including damage to the skin, muscles, nerves, bones, and internal organs. In extreme cases, they can even be deadly. Symptoms of an electrical burn range from pain and burning sensations to numbness, tingling, muscle spasms, and loss of consciousness. Breathing difficulties and cardiac arrest may also occur.
If you or someone you know has experienced an electrical injury, immediate medical attention is crucial. To prevent electrical burns, it is important to avoid touching wires or equipment with wet hands, exercise caution when working around electrical devices, ensure proper grounding of outlets and appliances, use electrical equipment safely, and rely on qualified electricians for any electrical work.
3. Electrical Fire
When it comes to electrical hazards, one of the most critical risks to address is electrical fires. These fires can originate from various sources, such as faulty wiring, overloaded circuits, damaged appliances, or improper installations. Beyond property damage and potential injuries, electrical fires can rapidly spread, making them exceptionally hazardous.
To prevent electrical fires, it’s crucial to have qualified professionals install and maintain electrical systems and appliances, avoid overloading circuits, and refrain from using damaged or outdated equipment. Additionally, having working smoke detectors and fire extinguishers in place at home or in the workplace can help detect and control fires at an early stage. By taking proactive measures to prevent electrical fires, you can ensure a safe and secure environment for yourself and those around you.
4. Electrical Explosion
Electrical explosions pose a significant risk as they involve the sudden release of energy within an electrical system, resulting in a violent burst. These explosions can be triggered by various factors, including electrical faults, overloading, or the presence of flammable substances near electrical equipment. To minimize the risk of electrical explosions, it is vital to follow proper electrical installation guidelines, conduct regular inspections and maintenance of electrical systems, and implement safety measures such as circuit protection devices and explosion-proof enclosures.
5. Electrical Arc Flash
An arc flash refers to a rapid and hazardous energy discharge that arises when an electric current jumps between two points, resulting in a sudden release of intense heat and light. This phenomenon occurs due to insulation breakdown or when conductive materials come into close proximity. The extreme heat and pressure produced by an arc flash can cause severe injuries, including burns and blindness, and also lead to equipment and structural damage. Therefore, it is crucial to take necessary precautions, such as wearing appropriate personal protective equipment and adhering to established safety protocols, to minimize the risks associated with electrical arc flashes. By prioritizing safety measures, individuals can effectively mitigate the potential hazards posed by arc flashes.
Final Thoughts
Electrical hazards can be dangerous and even deadly if not handled properly. It’s important to be aware of the different types of electrical hazards and take the necessary precautions to protect yourself and others. Remember that there are certain electrical tasks you should never DIY, as they require the expertise of a trained professional. Don’t put yourself at risk by attempting to handle these tasks on your own. Instead, contact a licensed electrician who can safely and efficiently take care of any electrical needs you may have. Stay safe and stay informed!

Dominica is justifiably called the Nature Island because of its soaring cliffs and lush vegetation. With a local population of under 75,000, this is your dream escape to be far from the maddening crowds. It was one of the last islands in the Caribbean to open up to tourism and has managed to follow an ecotourism model which encourages sustainable development.
Where to stay
The ideal base to start your adventures is at Fort Young Hotel and Dive Resort. It is situated in the capital, Roseau which makes a convenient base to explore the rest of the island. There are no chain hotels or large-scale resorts on the island, just hotels like Fort Young which oozes character in abundance. The hotel is on the site of a military fort dating back to the 17th century and was subsequently used as a police station. They are currently undergoing extension works to add 60 rooms in the autumn. They will also be displaying many of the original features of the building including a centuries-old bread oven and historic walls.
The rooms are extremely spacious and incredibly affordable from $190 per night and $255 per night if you opt for all-inclusive. If you are looking for a regal experience, upgrade yourself to one of their oceanfront suites. The names of these suites are named after prominent Dominican historical figures. They are larger than most people’s flats with a heavenly King bed, living room, dining room, kitchenette, and two bathrooms, which feature a whirlpool tub and shower. The best part is the expansive balcony for you to gaze into the tempting Caribbean Sea.
Dining out
Looking for dining options in Roseau can be a tricky affair. Some restaurants don’t open for lunch. Some don’t cater for dietary requirements such as vegetarian food. The best restaurant we discovered is The Palisades Restaurant at the hotel. You can enjoy al fresco dining at the only seaside restaurant in Roseau. The restaurant has a winning formula of offering local flavours with the likes of jerk pork served with provision pie along with comforting classics like luxuriously creamy shrimp a la king pasta. Their attentive staff do consider requests. With pleasure, they can offer more vegetarian options or lactose-free options, if you feel choices are lacking on the menu.
Spa
Visiting Dominica is often about revitalising and recharging oneself. Their Zemi Spa is just the space to achieve these goals. You’ll get to enjoy signature treatments with the mesmerising sound of the Caribbean waves in the background. They only use locally sourced ingredients and will cater the experience to your personal needs.
To-Do
The island is one of the top 10 diving destinations in the world. And the hotel must be at the heart of the operations, considering the non-stop flow of divers streaming in and out of the harbour which you can observe from The Palisades Restaurant. They have an equipment shop along with expert guides, so can cater from beginner level to advanced. Champagne Reef, with bubbles appearing through the sand due to underwater hot springs, is a must-visit for any diver.
The resort offers an “all-inclusive island-included” experience. It truly takes out the hassle from tourists having to arrange their excursions. Top of the list should be a visit to Titou Gorge. It will be a scenic swim through emerald waters to a waterfall surrounded by cliff walls. The entrancing light that filters through the gorge creates an ethereal atmosphere and it is no surprise, many Hollywood films have been shot at the gorge including Pirates of the Caribbean.
It is often combined with a trip to Trafalgar Falls. Set amongst the verdant mountainside are twin majestic waterfalls. One offers a cold-water pool whilst the other offers hot-spring water. The scenery looks like a film set from Avatar except the wildlife you will see will be adorable land crabs rather than Jurassic-type beasts. And close to this popular site is the River Rock Cafe, which reputedly serves the finest rum punch on the island (and probably the strongest).
Finally, a visit to Dominica isn’t complete without checking out the world-famous thermal springs. Ti Gwen Glo Sho is one I would recommend for the tranquillity and variety it offers. There are 2 separate hot springs with varying degrees of heat. The sulphur water is therapeutic as well as soothing. It’s nestled amongst various exotic flowers and rainforest cover and you are more than likely to encounter the endangered Lesser Antillean iguana.
If you want an off-the-beaten-track experience in the Caribbean, make sure you consider Dominica for your next holiday.
As we approach the summer season, one of the most popular destinations in Italy to consider visiting is Florence. We will examine the best places to stay, eat and enjoy immersive experiences so you can sample the very finest from the picturesque city.
Latest hotel opening
The most recent hotel opening in Florence is the distinctive 5-star La Gemma boutique hotel. The location could not be more central, steps away from Piazza della Repubblica. You are minutes away from designer boutiques and the most well-known monuments. It is situated in the former Palazzo Paoletti built in 1895 and then was subsequently used by the guild of hoteliers. The owners have painstakingly restored the interiors of the building and given it a funky art Deco vibe. The prominent green and pink palettes in the hotel reflect the similar colours used in the Duomo di Firenze. The alluring geometric shapes found throughout the hotel add a sense of whimsicality to your stay. Their Allure Spa offers personalised treatments in conjunction with Biologique Recherche to make sure the necessities of your skin come first. They will also offer a Turkish bath, hydro-massage bath, and ice shower along with their two therapy rooms.
The hottest restaurants and bars in town
You can enjoy a tour de Force fine dining experience at LUCA’s by Paolo Airaudo at La Gemma. The world-renowned chef runs countless famous restaurants across the globe, the most sought-after being his two Michelin-starred, Amelia in San Sebastian. Here, he offers elevated Tuscan cuisine in a refined yet relaxed environment. Despite the limited space, they have a very impressive wine cellar along with a bar that creates very hip cocktails with a Britpop theme. An alternative bar to sample world-class cocktails is Harry’s Bar The Garden at Sina Villa Medici Hotel. They serve classic cocktails using the finest ingredients and you get splendid views of the pool and garden of the hotel.
Another restaurant to consider is Gunè San Frediano. They specialise in Tuscan and Lucanian cuisine. They offer a 5 or 7-course tasting menu and expect to see delights such as a rabbit stuffed with foie gras and a tart served with white, milk and extra dark chocolate. The restaurant pays particular homage to the important women in our lives with post-modern paintings of iconic women commissioned with a local artist. If you want a casual venue populated by locals, then Trattoria Marione is a must-visit. You’ll enjoy comforting pasta dishes there such as pappardelle alla chinatigiana.
Food and aperitivo tours
I’ve always said the best way to explore a city and understand its culture is by doing a food tour. If you book with Curious Appetite Travel, that’s exactly what you’ll get as you discover the hidden gems of the city. Their historic food lover’s tour includes 5 gourmet tasting pit stops and you are guided by an experienced local who intersperses quirky historical facts in between the tastings. You’ll learn about the famous wine windows of Florence. You can sample local delicacies like budini di riso, which are Florentine rice pudding tarts. For those who are more into savoury dishes, you’ll get to try coccoli caldi and panini tartufati. The former is a deep-fried dough ball often stuffed with prosciutto ham and stracchino, whilst the latter is a truffle pâté roll. Particularly impressive is meeting local artisans such as visiting a farm-to-table deli, where the meat is from a farm a mere 11km away from the shop and run by the same family.
Italy Customized runs highly bespoke tours that cater to all requirements. They don’t just operate in Tuscany but throughout the country. With their aperitivo tour, you get to visit one of the most impressive wine stores in Florence. You can have a wine-tasting experience paired with cured meats and local cheese. And if you are very lucky and have the very personable owner, Linda take the tour; she can help you pick out the unique gems to buy as a holiday gift for friends or family. During the walking tour, you’ll pass very trendy street art from the likes of Andrea Roggi. During the tour, they might take you to hip neighbourhood wine bars where you can try a spritz cynar. The drink is well-known to aid digestion and is the ideal aperitif option.
Creating your bespoke perfume
Being the perfume capital of Italy, it’s not surprising you can find immersive experiences in the city where you can create your perfume. Visiting the master perfumer’s laboratory at Sileno Cheloni is like a journey into Hogwarts. With countless potions, you are guided by Sileno to discover what scents you are attracted to and learn the process of perfume-making. He also offers incense rituals and sensory dinners that arouse more than just your olfactory senses.
We may not be known for always having good weather but one thing London does quite well is having a good terrace (rooftop or normal) – whether the sun decides to shine or not. The perfect setting for some al fresco dining, we’ve got both the rooftop views and the citsyscape and greenery to ensure that ambience is on par with the food and drink our diners will consume.
As always, we’ve gone about doing the ‘hard’ work for you; trying out the latest terraces in the city – so that you can make your most informed decision next time the temperatures hit anything worthy of leaving you big coat at home. With a few sunny days and warmer temperatures than the Baltic ones we’ve ‘enjoyed’, here are our top terrace recommendations for 2024.
Spitalfields Market, East London
Summer seems to be here and Spitalfields E1 is here to make sure you make the most of it – starting with a wonderful weekend of events. If you’re in East London until June 4th, you can experience the newly-opened Lamb Street market which features delicious dishes from all your favourite cuisines. We were lucky enough to get a sneak preview and had both our tummies and tastebuds hugely satsifed by the jerk chicken and curried goat from Rudie’s Jerk Shack (don’t worry, there was plenty of plantain plus rice and peas). We’ll see you back there for some birria tacos from Dos Mas Tacos, halloumi fries from Ebby’s Kitchen and duck wraps from The Duck Truck – and much, much more.
If you download the Spitalfields E1 app, you can grab yourself some of those halloumi fries for free when ordering from Ebby’s – plus there are other deals to be scooped up.
Enjoy a gorgeous steak dinner (or whatever other tasty morsels from the menu that take your fancy) and then head out to the terrace to enjoy some gorgeous, panoramic views of London. Alternatively, be boujie and book one of Wagtail’s igloos for your own private dining and soak up the views throughout your meal. We enjoyed a beautifully zesty ceviche, along with super succulent scallops – and we know our scallops. We did opt for a tender and flavoursome rib-eye but if you’re not huge on meat, there’s roasted monkfish and risotto (and more) to choose from, too. Finish off with the pumpkin crème brûlée of your dreams.
Though not a rooftop terrace, this unsuspecting spot tucked away near London Bridge station is a gem you’re going to want to bookmark. With a cute café style interior, there’s outdoor seating for when the sun decides to (more permanently) shine. But let’s get onto the food. We were seriously impressed. From steak sandwiches to miso-glazed aubergine, this place can do it all. The fish pie was pretty phenomenal, while the creamy mushrooms on toast was another favourite. The standout, however? The goats cheese and courgette tart – trust us, it’s not to be missed.
Known for its wood-fired cooking (in a pizza oven, yet there is none on the menu), In Horto is “where rustic dining meets the botanical”. With snacks such as chorizo bites in a honey and mustard dressing and burrata drizzled with caponata and smoked white balsamic dressing, it’s a strong start to the meal – but don’t forget to leave room for your main course. It was a hard choice to make, with dishes such as wood-fired rice with baby globe artichoke tempting us, but we finally decided on slow roasted braised lamb with harissa vegetables and cod filet with fire-roasted ratatouille to share. Everything had a home-cooked meal sense to it – in the best way – and with the shutter windows open for summer, this is certainly the spot for a lowkey, relaxed night out to enjoy good food and a glass (or bottle) or wine.
With multiple varieties of smørrebrød on the menu, you’d be forgiven for ordering one of each topping and leave it there. However, while these are all incredibly delicious (we’d strongly recommend the curried herring, Danish blue cheese with pear and the roas beef), we would say you’d be sorely missing out should you opt to not progress to the rest of the menu. The crispy sardines with pickled egg mayo was seriously special, while the duck salad was also very tasty – though guaranteed you’ll be fighting over those delicious duck pieces. The frikadeller (meatballs) with creamy mash, gravy and pickled cucumber was the ultimate comfort dish but as we head into summer, you might decide to go for the equally satisfying herb-crusted lamb chops or grilled halibut.
The newest roof terrace to hit London, Cavo is located within The Outernet complex in central. With Mediterranean dishes such as octopus carpaccio and seafood stew, there’s a huge menu to absorb here. Some dishes (the black truffle taglioni) were more to our liking than others and we had hoped for the Josper grill to give our main courses a bit more of a tasty charcoal flavour than it did, however for some light bites and cocktails, it could be the city’s new summer hotspot.
Knowing that Shiro London is part of the popular Aqua Group, there’s definitely reason to go into this restaurant with high hopes – and boy, did it not disappoint. From a surprisingly delicious avocado tempura to both tasty and well-presented salmon and tuna tartare (complete with lotus root chips for serious scooping), the menu impressed from the start. The crystal sushi personally wasn’t for us – but an innovative venture, all the same. We preferred the classic dishes – particularly enjoying the chutoro (fatty tuna belly), unagi (grilled eel) and hamachi (yellowtail) nigiris. A lowkey but ambient atmosphere, Shiro Sushi is one to book this year.

With a respectful homage to the original Surf Club’s renowned cocktail culture, signature libations at The Surf Club Restaurant echo the past’s charismatic charm. Sipping on these delightful concoctions, you can almost hear the distant laughter and clinking glasses from the club’s heyday.
And as you savour the classic bar snacks, your appetite is teased and tempted by the culinary wonders that await. The Surf Club Restaurant effortlessly bridges the past with the present, offering a dining experience that is simultaneously nostalgic and forward-looking.
When it comes to the tasting, you’ll start with a deceptively simple appetiser – French Onion Dip with Kettle Chips. It’s an elevated rendition of a classic, with each crunchy chip a divine vessel for the rich, creamy, deeply caramelized onion dip.
Following this flavorful beginning is the Classic Caesar Salad. Prepared right at your table, this is an interactive spectacle that adds a dash of drama to your meal. Crisp romaine lettuce, tangy parmesan, and a robust dressing combine in a harmonious medley, the familiar made extraordinary through skill and presentation.
Your culinary journey peaks with the pièce de résistance – the Filet Mignon. Tender, succulent, and perfectly seared, the steak’s flavours are profound and complex. It melts in your mouth like a sonnet, leaving a lingering memory of a perfectly cooked steak.
Your evening at The Surf Club Restaurant is more than a meal – it’s a sensory immersion into the world of elevated dining, a bridge between eras, and a salute to the enduring beauty of Continental cuisine. This is where you indulge in the essence of Miami – in all its delicious glory.

Bern’s Steakhouse – Michelin Recommended
There’s a whisper in Tampa’s culinary circles about a name that garners immediate reverence – Bern’s Steak House. It isn’t merely a Michelin Guide Restaurant; it’s a gastronomic institution. Since 1956, Bern’s has been curating an exceptional dining experience defined by three simple elements: perfectly aged steaks, an astounding wine collection, and an internationally acclaimed dessert room.
As you cross its threshold, you’re not just stepping into a restaurant. You’re embarking on a culinary odyssey that transcends the definition of a meal and nudges it into the realm of extraordinary experiences.
Imagine tasting one of their prime cuts; each steak is impeccably aged and then cut to order, promising a symphony of flavours. Accompanying your steak are seasonal vegetables, harvested locally from Bern’s own farm or sourced from the finest purveyors, as fresh as the Floridian sunrise.
Yet Bern’s Steak House is not just about the sumptuous food but also its remarkable story. What you see today evolved from a simple business block on Howard Avenue, once home to a grocery store, a barber shop, and a dime store. Bern and Gert, through sheer dedication and the skilled hands of their carpenters, metalworkers, painters, and electricians, transformed the ordinary into the extraordinary.
