Here at House of Coco, we’re love the occasional countryside escape, especially an escape that lets our four-legged friends tag along too. So – armed with a large glass of GNT, I write about my wonderful doggy retreat to The Eastbury Hotel in Dorset with TeamCocopup Charlie.

Located in the charming Abbey town of Sherborne, The Eastbury Hotel is where familiar home comforts and country elegance come together in perfect harmony. Exuding a wealth of west country charms, The Eastbury Hotel is a quintessential English countryside escape that will surely impress any guest — especially the four legged ones.

This handsome Georgian Townhouse dates back to 1740 and was originally built as a gentleman’s residence. It was recently refurbished in 2018, following the acquisition by Peter and Lana de Savary of the prestigious de Savary Group. Outside, its red brick facade harks back to its Georgian history, but inside it is a picture of classic luxury, with all the modern touches of a luxury boutique hotel.

The Eastbury Hotel has all the signatures of a de Savary property; from the timeless elegance of its interiors to the impeccable service of its staff. We made our way across the hotel’s beautiful walled garden and into our delightful Garden Deluxe Room. Four of the Garden Deluxe rooms are dog-friendly, and the hotel even provides luxury dog-bedding for your pampered pooches. Each of the 21 rooms is named after a traditional English flower; a reflection of the beautiful flowers and trees that occupy the hotel’s idyllic gardens. Inside, these spacious room is a home away from home, with Egyptian cotton sheets, a cosy seating area and a handsome wooden writing desk, accented by a window that overlooks the garden below.

We were lucky enough to have been met by gentle winds and plenty of sunshine during our visit, which gave TeamCocopup Charlie the opportunity to truly make the most of the walled gardens and the spacious lawn at the hotel. The terrace is the perfect spot for summer drinks and overlooks the lawn, where guests can also enjoy a game of croquet, badminton, table tennis — and a very large game of chess.

If you are looking to explore outside of the hotel, the charming town of Sherborne has plenty of things to discover. The 1000 year old Sherborne Abbey is just a 10 minute walk away, and thequaint cobblestoned streets are worth exploring as well. These streets are filled with charming independent boutiques, to hearty restaurants serving excellent British cuisine. Look out for the paw signs outside restaurants and bars — which means that pets are welcome. Dorset is as dog-friendly as can be (so much so they have their own local doggy magazine)! So there’s plenty of places for your pup to explore. We recommend checking out the beautiful garden landscapes of Sherborne Castle too.

There is no better way to end a day of exploring than with dinner at The Eastbury Hotel’s award-winning Seasons Restaurant. The restaurant has won 2 Rosettes for culinary excellence and it is easy to see why. Chef Matthew Street offers up a refreshing take on British classics and uses only the freshest local ingredients. All of the produce is sourced from local suppliers, and the herbs come directly from the gardens.

As we bid goodbye to the beautiful Eastbury Hotel its cosy rooms, the calming sanctuary of its gardens, and the wonderful staff that have made our stay truly special — we’re already dreaming of our return to The Eastbury.

How much do we all love a good brownie?

One of the absolute best comfort foods for #TeamCoco is a delicious, gooey, indulgent, heavenly mass of chocolate brownie – and guess what, our fave Yorkshire brownie shop ‘Love Brownies’ is expanding across the UK, and we couldn’t be happier.

Love Brownies based in Ilkley, has gone from strength to strength, from starting an online brownie business ten years ago and launching a bakery two years ago, to winning numerous national food awards and now opening a number of retail experiences in Cheshire and across London.

Chantal and Lee Teal, owners of Love Brownies started to win countless industry awards for their brownies, and they soon realised that business expansion was the way forward. Customers were travelling from greater distances to enjoy the Love Brownies café experience, not just from Yorkshire but from all over the UK.

Chantal Teal, Head Baker and co-owner at Love Brownies says; “It became apparent that Love Brownies needed to expand. Our online sales have sky rocketed in the ten years since offering gifted brownies online, we opened our bakery and café in our home town of Ilkley because of local demand, and our customers have quadrupled in numbers year on year. We are now in our fourth kitchen (due to larger orders and more customers) and we need even bigger to accommodate our increase in sales. We took the decision earlier this year to expand through franchising the business, and things seem to be going full steam ahead in the right direction, as we are soon to move into our fifth kitchen – which will give extra space to increase production in the future.”

The retail café experience that Love Brownies is known for will become the same concept for the new Cheshire store and also for the Greater London Southgate store, the London Islington concept (due to open early November) will be a takeaway drink and brownie outlet with brownie gifts. Ilkley will remain in the Love Brownies portfolio and will expand in coming months to become a larger café setting to accommodate our customer requirements.

Love Brownies bakery kitchen will be relocated to the heart of the Yorkshire Dales, based in the picturesque village of Howgill near Barden, part of the well-known Devonshire Estate.

Love Brownies is also going to be partnering with Yockenthwaite Cereals to co-brand a number of chocolate products for each of the retail stores including a Love Brownies Chocolate Yockenthwaite Granola, Chocolate Muesli, and Chocolate Porridge.

Love Brownies has received numerous awards and accolades including; The Great British Food Magazine Award in the Free From category for the Love Brownies Salted Caramel Brownie. A number of Great Taste Awards between 2012 and 2018. Star Buy Award from Eat In Magazine. Five Stars from Excelle Magazine. Taste Notes Selection by House and Garden Magazine. Independent Retailer of the Year at the 2018 Ilkley Business Awards. Highly commended at the 2017 Bradford Means Business Awards. Food Retailer of the Year 2017 at the H&N Magazine Eat Awards. A major award was winning Small Producer of the Year at the Quality Food Awards 2017 for the Gluten Free Double Chocolate Brownie, and they are currently shortlisted for a Deliciously Yorkshire Award for the Love Brownies Salted Caramel Brownie.

All Love Brownies brownies are gluten free, and they now have a range of brand new vegan brownies to add to the collection. For more info check out Love Brownies online.

Every occasion has its wines! While everyone has their favourites, some wines are more appropriate for festivities than others. Especially when it comes to celebrating something as precious and deep as love, picking the perfect bottle is of utmost importance.
Down below are a few options to help you pair your romantic dinner with the most appropriate wine to win your Valentine’s heart!

For Starters…
To start off your Valentine’s Day dinner, a lighter touch is recommended. Why not impress your partner right from the very first course with a dry Brut Champagne? While perfect in the case where you’ve opted for a seafood starter, it will also accompany green salads wonderfully. If you wish to experience bolder tastes, you could prepare an easy but always spectacular tomato bruschetta. To rival the strong presence of garlic, go with a French or Italian red wine. A Beaujolais Nouveau or a Chianti would be an excellent fit. And if you’re looking for something better suited to the season, a light parsnip soup featuring the buttery flavours of winter pear and a hint of ginger will be sure to impress. Simply pair it with a Savoie or a Burgundy white wine.

The Main Attraction
There are many options when it comes to main courses for Valentine’s Day. You could therefore decide to pair your wine with the dish as an afterthought, or create a meal based around a hand-picked bottle. A Château Petrus, for instance, could be the star of a very impressive show! Its sophisticated fragrance which calls to mind peppery berries lends a refined touch to beef and veal courses and works particularly well with wild mushrooms and truffles. If your Valentine enjoys the strong character of French cheeses such as Camembert or Maroilles, Château Petrus constitutes an excellent accompaniment.
Château Margaux is another beautiful choice for some of the most exceptional Valentine’s Day dishes. It will work wonders with a truffle risotto or an elaborate omelette.
If a fish course feels more appropriate, the crispness of a citrusy Riesling would be the ideal option to go along salmon. With lobster or crab, a Corton-Charlemagne will be exquisite, as its majestic golden body is well suited for celebration. Fine and delicate, it’s also powerful and perfectly balanced.
Finally, vegetarian and vegan dishes may also pair gorgeously with a number of wines. Potato dishes, for instance, will work wonders with a Marcel Lapierre Morgon. This red wine is obtained from organically-grown grapes and has the added advantage of being suitable for plant-based diets.

A Distinguished Dessert
Chocolate is definitely the dessert option most synonymous with Valentine’s Day. To pair with the bitterness of a dark chocolate mousse, for instance, a Côte-Rotie or a Bandol will provide just the right tannic experience. For milk or white chocolate, one needs a little freshness to balance out the sweetness of the dessert. White wines from Alsace such as Riesling or Gewurztraminer are a perfect pick. Viognier wines and Sauvignon Blanc are also expressive enough to nuance sweet milky flavours.
Aiming to offer their customers the unforgettable experience that only the highest-quality wines can offer, Millesima source their wines directly from the most renowned producers. The family-owned company has been providing top quality service and expert advice to wine lovers for over 30 years.

It is 9:30pm on a Tuesday night, I get a call from my editor – surely I have not missed a deadline? ‘Do we have a photoshoot?’, quick questions run through my mind – I take the call. ‘Pack your bags, you’re going to Monaco’ she continues ‘And once you are done there, Barcelona’ – I check to see if I’m still asleep, very awake! and a bruised arm later – I mentally plan my wardrobe, realising actually I don’t have any time whatsoever – I rush off to pack. Nothing screams adventure like a trip to Monaco and Barcelona.

Sat in the airport – It becomes more of a reality! Tanned from my escapades in Spain the week before, I’m so glad that my holiday wardrobe works on my new found skin tone! I decide to take a look at the Itinerary. I will be attending the Au Soleil summer soiree hosted by the Le Meridien Hotels and Resorts.

The adventure begins when I board a helicopter from Nice airport to take me to Monaco – as we fly over the French Riviera – I can’t help but imagine what is in store! The views from up above are impeccable – stunning crystal blue seas – yachts bigger than my house! White sand beaches if everything looks so magical up here, I can’t wait to land.

I place my oversized Dior sunglasses on my face – as I leave the helicopter, channelling my inner Grace Kelly. This was her life – once upon a time she owned this – so I’m doing this for her.

I am shown my room – as the door opens – I am greeted by the view, quintessentially French Riveria – the crisp blue sky meets the charming aqua blue sea – which touches the white sands so perfectly – it is inviting you in! The bedroom itself is a haven just in case it decided to rain! It is one of those rooms you wouldn’t mind being locked in!

Feeling refreshed and showered I go downstairs to meet my host, as I approach the lobby I am greeted by a sparkling aperitif and it’s over cocktails I meet the wonderful Nastasia of Dame Traveller and Angelina of The Lovely Escapist – sometimes press trips are much more fun when you’ve got your girls!

Dinner that evening is at Avenue 31 – a charming idyllic restaurant 5 minutes away from the hotel – the food is sublime and the service is impeccable, each course is partnered well with a fantastic wine.

As I wake up in the morning, I realise I slept with curtains open – and this was on purpose – I wanted to be greeted with the view – and there is nothing more spectacular than waking up to a sunrise from the comfort of your own bed and at Le Meridien Monaco – this is possible!

Monaco is perfect, perfectly expensive and rich smelling – the yachts are super – the labels are everywhere – the go to holiday destination of the rich and famous. As we stroll the streets and admire the buildings – everything is beautiful the way the flowers are arranged down to the pavements. We stop to get coffee, and literally missing an actual ‘bumping into’ Liza Minelli, like you do, after all this is Monaco.

Exploring the streets of Monte Carlo – we find the church where Grace Kelly got married – making the perfect picture opportunity – we have been walking for hours and I have deleted every app on my phone that could possibly make room for more pictures. I have never been anywhere where the views have been so spectacular whether it is of the sea or the cliffs behind us – we seem to stop and go ‘wow’ every few minutes! We continue exploring, eating ice creams and of course I have to sneak in some shopping! It is Monaco! It would be rude not to!

Arriving back at the hotel – we are treated to a drive in a vintage car! Wearing tailored shorts and a crisp white shirt – the car is a peugeot 406. It is the perfect colour of cadet blue and goes well with my outfit – driving through the picturesque french riviera it is easy to see why old Hollywood flocked here from Kelly, Hepburn to Gable – the place oozes class prestige and most of all it is serene – the panoramic views are enough to leave you speechless and driving in a car with the top down it’s hard not to emulate that classic Gable persona.

The evening arrives the hotel is hosting the Au Soleil summer soiree. The past few days have
seemed like a dream from an old Lauren Bacall and Humphrey Bogart film retro glam travel teamed perfectly with the vintage suitcases – the soiree is set on the beach which the sea and the sky provide the most indulgent backdrop. Sipping Rose underneath yellow umbrellas which provide that perfect amount of shade from that golden hour burn. Wide straw beamed hats teamed with oversized sunglasses, the wind blows gently and in the corner of my eye 3 older gentlemen in ivory suits share a cigar. Truth be told if I closed my eyes I could almost imagine this whole scene 50 years ago – it is classic. Le Meridien have not only created a beautiful event that invigorates all your senses but has created a memory that will last forever, all those feelings of nostalgia were set on fire. As the night draws to an end – the singer performs an acoustic rendition of La Isla Bonita – the stars appear and the canapes which are so moorish are soon finished. That indeed was a summer soiree.

A hop a skip and a flight later – I am in Barcelona! Now I have a love for Barcelona which rivals New York – it is cool, it is contemporary there is amazing architecture the food the art – If I was given the opportunity to live there – it would be snatched. However all the times I have been to Barcelona I have never travelled outside of the centre. And this trip was the perfect opportunity – we arrived at Le Meridien Ra which is located in Castell – an hours drive from Barcelona.

Greeted by thee most cutest ice cream truck – it is the perfect remedy after a 2 hour journey and a luggage mix up! All hotels should do this! I open the doors to my room – and this one is different from Monaco – this is streamlined focusing on features like the huge water feature which is derived from the sea and creating a pool like feature outside my window. There is more thought taken into the furniture. It is slick and sophisticated and by my bed is Harper’s Bazaar and Spanish Vogue – they knew I was coming.

Spain is chilled, unlike the fast paced life in Monaco – we take time indulging and reflecting – we are given the opportunity to stargaze at night on top of the hotel’s roof – and through giant
telescopes I find jupiter and Saturn – this is a truly thrilling experience having always been a solar system geek.

There is something more personal about Le Meridien Ra – the staff are incredibly helpful and seem to know my name – always offering to help and opening doors. The hotel itself is magnificent and old 1920 children’s hospital which has been modernised but kept its cool high ceilings and windows. It also houses its own orchard with orange trees and grapevines which are located in the blissful courtyard. The property is ideally placed on the beach front but is the perfect combination of modern and classic spanish architecture – clever use of minimalism that partner so well with the outstanding views! Le Meridien is full of surprises and stories – and it down to you to find them. It would be rude not to take advantage of this magnificent hotel and we hold an impromptu photoshoot! Styled in a White Joseph shirt Boots from Daniel Footwear Jacket by Gucci and in my favourite ACNE jeans – the 1920’s building is a the perfect backdrop

Overall it has been a wonderful trip full of midnight walks getting lost in Barcelona! New experiences and trying new foods. Making new friends and making memories, laughing uncontrollably, making plans and talking about dreams – and all the perfect ingredients for the perfect adventure.

Here at House of Coco, we’re having a bit of a Marbella moment. From its beautifully boozy lunch spots to quaint and Andulasian Old Town, there is so much to love.

A few days as culture kids is all well and good, but what’s a trip to the southern Spanish city without an extravagant afternoon (and evening) at one of their famous beach clubs?

Here, we round-up the best beach clubs in the city. Book yourself a day bed, save your pennies for as much Champagne as possible and thank us when you have the best. Day. Ever.

Ocean Beach Club

It’s probably a bit of a given that Ocean Beach will come in top in any round-up of Marbella’s best beach clubs, but it’s for good reason. Trust us.

Ocean Beach is 9,000 square meters of pure luxury in the city’s trendy marina district of Puerto Banus. A huge saltwater pool is the venue’s centre piece, with day beds and bars scattered around the edge each with beautiful views over the club and sea. From the spectacular food to the amazing views, unbeatable service and fabulous music, there are so many reasons why it’s guaranteed to fast become your favourite summer party space.

This month, we jetted off to the venue’s season Launch Party, and besides making us uncontrollably excited for the upcoming weather, it confirmed that Ocean Beach is the sea-front venue we’ll always return to. They’re officially open for summer.

Ocean Beach Club offers a starting rate of 135 euros for a small round day bed for a maximum of three people. This goes up to 975 euros for a Super VIP square bed for a maximum of 12 people. This price includes 3 bottles of Dom Perignon champagne and carries an additional spend of 1,500 euros.

La Plage by Casanis

This place might not be your stereotypical beach club (there’s no pool in sight), but it’s the perfect place for a party.

Primarily, it is the latest in the Casanis chain of restaurants, this time set right on the beach and serving (wonderfully) fine French-Belgian cuisine. The whole place boasts funky (very Instagrammable) décor and the customer service is second to none. Seriously – that wine glass will never be empty.

There is almost too much choice when it comes to the lunch menu, with an array of cold and hot starters on offer plus delicious sides and seriously good mains. We’d recommend the chicken Paella if you’re looking to get in the Spanish spirit. And the Calamari. And the burrata salad… we could go on.

Sundays are particularly great at La Plage, as their Sunday Sunset Rituals parties take place. From the guest DJs to the entertainment from saxophonists, drummers and violinists, there’s not a greater place for a party on the beach.

Visit www.laplagecasanis.com for more information. La Plage by Casanis offers beach beds from 15 euros per day. Price includes a bottle of water.

Nikki Beach Marbella

With clubs all around the world, Nikki Beach club is the best place to dine and relax in style. They pride themselves on combining the best of music, dining, entertainment, art and fashion into one, and on that? They totally deliver.

Sip on a mojito and get ordering the sushi as you sunbathe the day away with some of the best views along the coast. By day, expect a whole host of DJs playing chilled out tunes, and by night expect some of the biggest names in music. Make a booking… we dare you.

Amare Beach Club

The Amare Beach Club is a fun and unique space on the promenade in the centre of Marbella for enjoying sun, music, booze and great food.

Wooden walkways lead guests from the hotel and restaurant out to the sea, and spacious day beds are scattered either side. We’re huge fans of the “Push & Go” service at Amare, which allows you to order whatever you fancy from one of the waiters. Whether that’s an ice-cold glass or rose or a massage (yes, really), your wish is Amare’s command.

La Cabane Beach Club

La Cabane Beach Club offers a 5* VIP beach club experience, with a beautiful pool, white sun loungers and Balinese beds, plus direct access down to the sand.

The overall ambiance is exclusive, elegant and relaxed – the perfect combination.

If that wasn’t enough, there’s also a fabulous restaurant with an a la carte menu. That said, for the full La Cabane experience, we’d recommend trying their legendary Grand Buffet. It’s a sumptuous selection of more than 60 dishes, including paella, roasted meats, seafood and desserts. It’s available on Saturdays and Sundays for most of the year, and daily in August. Form an orderly queue.

Christmas is a time for eating, drinking and making merry. But what about the vegans amongst us who can no longer tuck into turkey, pigs-in-blankets and eggnog? Luckily our resident vegan, Rachael Lindsay, is here to tell us about the best vegan treats to keep your vegan friend (or you) happy this Christmas (and beyond!)

ChicP

This one is a perfect starter or side on Christmas Day, or as your dip selection at the party buffet. ChicP is a range of yummy dips made from surplus vegetables. Flavours include carrot, ginger and turmeric, beetroot and horseradish and chilli and pumpkin. I tried them all with gusto and my out-and-out favourite was the old classic, herby houmous. All of them were bursting with flavour, probably something to do with the fact that they are mainly made with raw vegetables, which means they are also some of the healthiest dips out there. Buy the whole range and you will be sure to keep your veggie friends satisfied throughout the whole the festive season.

Peakz

This is one of my personal favourites: delightful little chocolatey bites which will be a taking point at every festive gathering as everyone will want one and everyone will exclaim “these can’t be vegan!” Peakz come in excellent flavour choices such as salted caramel and chocolate orange and are smothered in dark chocolate with a satisfying crunch. Not only that, they are apparently healthy as well. Full of vitamin B12 and iron and the health-giving properties of good-quality dark chocolate. You can graze on these babies at pretty much any festive moment, but I like the idea of placing them in those little glass bowls around the house for guests to munch on.

Hippeas

Hippeas are all of those things that are good for you: organic, gluten-free, fibre-filled, baked not fried, the list goes on. And yet they somehow also taste amazing. Having tested these on non-veggie friends, the conclusion was that, although the first hippea sampled can seem a little dry, they are surprisingly more-ish. This became apparent when nobody could stop dipping into their packet once they had tried one. Flavours include ‘in herbs we trust’, ‘far out fajita’ and ‘sweet and smokin’. If you still aren’t persuaded, just know that Hippeas are backed by celebrity investor, Leonardo Dicaprio. Another great talking point as they replace festive crisps as the Christmas snack of choice….no?…the choice is yours guys!

Here at House of Coco we love anything calorific. So when we heard that Freakshakes, originally from Canberra in Australia, have found a new home in Leeds city centre, we were overjoyed. Even more so when we realised it’s at one of our fave hangouts in the city, Angelica. They’ve launched their very first menu of these epic milky concoctions.

These skyscraper milkshakes have become the latest social media sensation, thanks to their instagram-able style. These creamy mouth-watering creations aren’t just a pretty face; they are in fact a sweet tooth’s dream. With their combination of milky goodness, rich gooey cake and donuts, delicious cookie chunks, lashings of cream and ice cream, these inspired cocktails – all topped with a whole carnival of toppings from sweets and fruit to chocolate – are the perfect mix of drink and dessert.

Angelica, located in Trinity Leeds, will launch its Freakshake menu on Monday 13 March, to coincide with the premier of Disney’s live action adaptation of Beauty and the Beast later in the week. To celebrate the much-anticipated remake of this Disney classic, head chef, Lee Murdoch has created two limited edition shakes, inspired by the fairy tale’s romantic characters.

The Belle Freakshake has taken inspiration from the Disney character’s famous golden ball gown, with a delicious mix of yellow tasty treats and sweets. And of course, the Beast Freakshake, inspired by his rugged blue waistcoat and brown fur, expect a lot of chocolate in this gigantic shake.

Lee adds: “These new additions to the dessert menu at Angelica marks a Freakshake debut for the city, and we can’t wait to serve the people of Leeds some serious freaky shakes. With piles of sweets and tasty treats on top of a divine milky drink, your taste buds are going to be in heaven as you and a friend devour these monstrous milkshakes.”

Its beautiful oak panelled restaurant, Zirbelzimmer, is the best place in town for a traditional Austrian meal and stunning views of the River Salzach. Its handsome interiors are soaked in centuries of history, with guests like Queen Elizabeth, and the Dalai Lama gracing its hallowed halls. Helmed by the Gault Millau toque awarded Executive Chef Michael Gahleitner, Zirbelzimmer offers a wonderful combination of both local and international cuisine. Don’t leave the Sacher Hotel without trying the original Sacher-Torte. Created by the young Franz Sacher in 1832, for the Prince von Metternich, the Sacher Torte is a word-famous Austrian dessert that combines chocolate, apricot jam, and whipped cream.

M32

Their menu is a combination of Mediterranean and Austrian cuisine, and only uses locally sourced ingredients no further than 32 miles from the restaurant. So if you’re not digging into a Fried fillet of alpine salmon or cutting into Fillet steak — take in the breathtaking panoramic views of the city in the Salzburg’s most beautiful terrace restaurant.
