Dry skin and flakiness cause the skin to be more sensitive to sunlight and skin care products. Though the effects of dry skin are mostly seen on the arms, legs, and hands, they can appear on other parts of the body as well. Dry skin is mostly caused by excessive washing, use of hard water, exposure to irritants, genetics, and medical conditions such as diabetes and hypothyroidism. It can also be caused by vitamin B deficiency.

If you have dry skin, you know how uncomfortable it feels and how challenging it can be to manage it. However, the easiest way to manage dry skin is by using klavuu skincare products that are used for this type of skin. Knowing the skin care ingredients to use on dry skin can also help reduce the scaly, tight, and flaky feeling that’s associated with dry skin.

To help you out, below are five ingredients that are present in products specifically for dry skin:

  1. Squalane

This skin care ingredient differs slightly from squalene, which is the natural compound that’s made in the sebaceous glands of the skin. The sebaceous glands are responsible for producing sebum. This is the oil that moisturizes the skin and protects it. Sebum also gives the skin a greasy feeling.

Squalane differs from sebum in the sense that it’s light on the skin and serves as an emollient. This means it absorbs into the skin easily, which makes it an ideal ingredient for skin care products that moisturize dry skin.

  1. Glycerin

Dry skin requires intense moisturization. One of the ingredients that helps with this is glycerin.

As a humectant, glycerin draws in water. When applied to dry skin, this ingredient draws water to the skin, hydrating it effectively.

  1. Lactic Acid

Often, ingredients such as lactic acid, polyhydroxy acids, and glycolic acid are considered to be exfoliants that remove dead cells from the skin. While this is true, these ingredients also act as humectants because they help retain water in the skin.

Lactic acid, naturally found in dairy products has gentle hydrating and exfoliating properties. This is why goat milk is commonly used in skincare products due to its AHA ingredient and balanced PH levels. Natural goat milk soaps gently remove the top layers of dead skin, balance your skin tone leaving it glowing and more youthful.

Though lactic acid can help hydrate the skin, it’s advisable to use it in skin care products as opposed to using it as the primary humectant. This is because it can cause skin irritation.

  1. Ceramides

This ingredient forms a critical part of the skin’s protective barrier, which is known as the stratum corneum. Since ceramides are present between the skin cells, they can help seal the barrier. By doing this, they prevent potential irritants from getting into the skin, maintaining hydration.

Skin conditions like eczema experience functionality issues with the protective barrier. As such, ceramides are used to develop skin care products for this condition.

  1. Stearyl And Cetyl Alcohol

Generally, alcohol is viewed as an ingredient that causes stinging and dryness on the skin. While this is true, not all types of alcohol have this effect. Fatty alcohols, such as stearyl and cetyl, have a moisturizing effect on dry skin. These two ingredients occur naturally in the moisture barrier of the skin and are highly effective at preventing water loss.

Even so, most fatty alcohols that are used in skin care products are extracted from vegetable or plant oils.

  1. Hyaluronic Acid

This skin care ingredient is highly effective at keeping the skin hydrated by holding water in the skin. Hyaluronic acid is commonly used in skin care products. It’s also recommended by dermatologists for dry skin types that need dehydration.

Since hyaluronic acid occurs naturally in the human body, using products that contain this ingredient rarely causes irritation. If you have sensitive skin, you should find products that contain hyaluronic acid comfortable to use. Still, it’s best to consider patch testing them so you can determine whether your skin reacts to other ingredients that may be present in the product.

  1. Aloe Vera

People who have sensitive skin occasionally experience facial rashes. If this is the case, then note that Aloe Vera can help soothe the skin. Over the years, this ingredient has been used in skin care products to relieve dry skin from irritation.

Aloe Vera gel contains high amounts of vitamins, minerals, water, and other ingredients that support skin health. To keep your skin well-hydrated skin, opt for skin products that contain Aloe Vera.

Final Thoughts

There are numerous skin care products in the market. However, each product is developed for a specific type of skin. If you have dry skin, considering alternative options like goat milk soap vs regular soap might be beneficial in your skincare routine. If you have dry skin, the most effective way of finding a product that keeps your skin hydrated and moisturized is to know the ingredients that are best for this skin type. When you go shopping for skin care products for dry skin, look for the ingredients discussed above.

In addition to using products directly on your skin, you can also take vitamins and supplements to help you avoid the risk of any deficiencies you may have.
This was recently covered in a post talking with Naked Nutrition founder, Stephen, where he talked about the importance of nutrition from a performance point of view.

It’s important to note that proper nutrition is not just important for athletic performance, it is critical for every single person.
The best way to get your nutrient demands met is by having a healthy, balanced diet from food. After that, using supplements can help.
There are thousands of different supplements available to purchase so it can be very hard to know what to take. The key is to look at the ingredients list and check out reviews online of real people taking them who have had real experience with how they make them feel.
Always make sure you trust the person writing the review, look at their credentials and their motivations for writing the review. Then it’s a case of trying it out to see how it works for you.

Consultations with an online dentist come with a variety of benefits that are catered to each individual. Virtual appointments with an online dentist are becoming increasingly popular as a result of the many advantages that come with using this kind of service, including the fact that it will be less expensive and more convenient. Teledentistry and online consultations with dentists will likely expand the range of services they provide through virtual platforms.

The following is a list of some of the most frequently asked questions by patients who are interested in trying the services offered by an online dentist:

What is an online dentist appointment or Teledentistry?

The provision of dental care and support, such as dental care diagnosis, consultation, treatment, patient education, and the transfer of dental information through the use of electronic data, imaging, and communication platforms that is interactive and can provide audio, videos, and data and also store and forward these technologies is referred to as Teledentistry. An online dentist provides this service.

Appointments with a dentist that are conducted online may also include high-tech monitoring of the patient’s dental condition. This method of patient care is both more convenient and less expensive.

What kinds of services can you expect from an online dentist?

Patients can avoid having to wait for an appointment by using some of the platforms that are available for online dentist appointments. In addition, an online dentist is always ready to assist patients who use these platforms. Only for urgent or emergency cases, using an online dentist as a stopgap measure to alleviate pain until more comprehensive treatment can be administered in a traditional dental office can be an option for a temporary solution.

It is possible that you will need to wait several days or even weeks to be seen by a dentist for dental issues that are not considered urgent. A patient can speak with one (out of many) dental professionals in order to discuss concerns and take the steps necessary toward a solution. In the event that it becomes necessary, the patient can make an appointment with a dentist located close to their place of residence for specialized treatments.

Is an online dentist a medical professional?

Yes. Dentists who practice online and offer diagnoses and treatments are required to hold board certification in their field. Choose from among the many online dentist platforms that will connect patients with dental professionals so that they can discuss pressing issues with their oral and dental health.

Consider the feedback provided by patients regarding the Teledentistry platform. Make sure that they have highly skilled dentists and are ready to communicate any concerns that patients may have while also offering a variety of treatment options as possible solutions. Choose Teledentistry platforms that clearly state that they do not provide any kind of treatment or write a prescription for medicines; instead, their sole purpose is to match patients with qualified dentists and direct them to those dentists.

Will patients be provided with a diagnosis and recommendations for treatment by an online dentist?

Yes. The patient will consult with board-certified dental professionals about their concerns before receiving a diagnosis from those dental professionals. Patients who use the platform are only connected to dentists who are currently available to accept patients for accurate and efficient consultations.

What kinds of advantages do patients have access to when they consult with dentists via the internet?

It can:

Improve the dental hygiene of patients

Research indicates that patients have been visiting dentists less frequently since 2003, and this trend has continued. However, patients are now able to connect with healthcare professionals through the utilization of Teledentistry systems, which serve as an essential tool in improving oral health in a convenient manner.

Appointments with online dentists have been shown to be more affordable and increase efficiency by reducing travel time, shared staffing, and fever face-to-face appointments. This is due to the fact that online appointments do not require patients to physically visit the dentist.

Improved access to patient care

Twenty percent of Americans live in rural areas, which means that it can be difficult for them to visit the dentist or receive other types of medical care. Patients no longer have to travel very far to see a dentist, thanks to the availability of online dental care. Additionally, it will assist dentists in supplementing their clinician staffing in areas where they are lacking in personnel. A dental clinic has the ability to broaden its patient base beyond the offices of traditional dentists. It has the potential to increase the number of patients served by dental professionals by hundreds.

Increasing the number of available in-clinic appointment slots for patients who have a need for them

Dental clinic appointment times are restricted. There are some patients who have reserved a time slot but are not required to necessarily meet with a dentist in person. Therefore, patients who require immediate medical attention may have a more difficult time getting it.

Maintain the same standard of dental care as with visits to the clinic

Studies have shown that the quality of care that patients receive from face-to-face and online dentists is comparable, as is the success rate of patients receiving treatment from either type of dentist.

Is it possible to communicate with more than one online dentist simultaneously?

Yes, patients can be connected to one or more healthcare professionals through the majority of the online dentist platforms available today. After their initial appointment with a dental professional who is accredited, many patients still choose to seek out second and third opinions from other dental professionals. On some of these platforms, patients are given the option to continue seeing their regular dentist while also receiving treatment from one of the platform’s board-certified online dentists.

How long does it typically take for an online dentist consultation?

The length of time that a video call with an online dentist typically lasts can range from 15 to 30 minutes.

Will using an online dentist ensure the safety of my personal information?

Yes. Choose a platform from a company that places a high priority on protecting patient privacy. They are required to make a public statement stating that all patient information is stored in a secure location and is fully encrypted. In addition to that, the Privacy Policy and Terms of Use ought to be viewable on their respective websites.

Does an online dentist abide by the HIPAA rules and regulations?

Indeed, they ought to. The platform needs to be meticulously designed to ensure that it is fully compliant with the HIPAA standards and to protect the data of patients by encrypting it in a secure manner. The platform ought to have access to or storage space for sensitive personal health information that is distributed and discussed between the dentist and the patient.

Being a massage therapist is most definitely an exciting career, as you gain immense satisfaction from the health benefits you bring to clients. For people who have ever been in physical or emotional pain, the impact of the masseur’s work is, without question, impressive. Here we explore these health benefits and open up the positive effects on more people who could enjoy the results.

What is massage?

A massage is an ancient form of healing therapy, perhaps one of the oldest. It has been practised through millennia by people, from the Ancient Greeks, Egyptians, Chinese and Indians. All these cultures have been convinced of the power of massage to treat ailments of the body and mind.

Massage is the manipulation of muscle and connecting tissue. The therapist with manual work with the muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia, holding, moving and applying pressure. There are many therapeutic techniques to be learned and used, with varying levels of intensity.

What are the different types of massage?

Different types of massage will be used to achieve various health benefits. Myotherapy, for instance, is the assessment and treatment of soft tissue pain and injury. This therapy aims to maintain the health and return function to structures in the human body.

Remedial massage is a form of rehabilitation massage for biomechanical dysfunctions or injuries and involves mobilisation techniques. Therapeutic massage is also known as Swedish massage and is popular for relaxation and the improvement of blood circulation.

Aromatherapy marries the benefits of massage with those of essential oils proven to have therapeutic benefit; for instance, sandalwood is reputed to reduce nervousness.

Reflexology is a massage of reflex points on the feet that aid other parts of the body. It is a way of stimulating the body’s natural healing properties.

Shiatsu massage is an oriental massage technique that improves energy flows around the body. This massage uses many of the same theories as those used by acupuncture.

Finally, there is sports massage, which uses deep massage techniques to improve the recovery of overworked muscles and enhance performance.

The conditions massage is known to help

There is a lot of research to support massage as part of a treatment plan for a range of conditions. We are likely most aware of the relief of subacute and chronic low back pain. Working to relieve the spasm and stiffness of muscle can do a lot to reduce the discomfort, though it should always be carried out by somewhere capable of working without causing more problems. The same is true of most soft tissue injuries, which can be effectively treated with manipulation.

Massage is perfect for dealing with DOMS. If you have ever taken part in significant exercise, you will be well aware of the consequences of delayed onset muscle soreness. For professional sportspeople, massages are a crucial part of the recovery process, allowing them to perform again in the next match, race, or game.

What is less well known is that massage can also be a successful treatment for mental health issues, such as anxiety, stress, and insomnia. The therapy can create feelings of relaxation that can give moments of respite from challenging emotional turmoil.

For those seeking a holistic approach to wellness in
the Lone Star State, an Austin massage spa offers a respite from the
hustle of daily life, providing tailored treatments that address both
physical soreness and mental stress.

The benefits offered by massage

The physical impacts include reduced muscle tension, improved circulation, stimulation of the lymphatic system, reduction of stress hormones, increased joint mobility and flexibility, improved skin, recovery of soft tissue, and more.

However, the most immediate impact of massage is the feeling of calm and deep relaxation. Massage prompts the release of endorphins, which are the neurotransmitters that produce feelings of wellbeing. This can help reduce mental health concerns and have the physical effect of lowering blood pressure.

Is a massage always good for me?

While there are lots of positives to massage, there are some instances when you should avoid massage or seek the advice of a professional. For example, during pregnancy, a massage by a general practitioner might not be appropriate. There are prenatal massages available, but these need to be done by a trained medical professional or look for a certified specialist home massage service.

You should also avoid massages where there are skin rashes, cuts, or infections, as the oils used as part of the massage could further irritate the skin. Equally, if you have suffered a fracture or break to a bone, you shouldn’t receive a massage.

People with life-threatening illnesses such as cancer can benefit from massages, but it should be done again under medical supervision. The massage stimulates blood flow, and this might be counter to proper healing practices in such circumstances.

Conclusion

Massage is an excellent way to improve health. With the proper manipulation of our body structures, we can feel our physical and mental health benefits.

Hayley Bieber, Kendal Jenner and Selena Gomez are big fans, Chrissy Teigen raves about it, so what is the buzz around lymphatic drainage therapy? I booked myself onto a course at SHE Studio to find out more about the latest celeb wellbeing trend and discover if it can improve your health.

Your lymphatic system is part of your immune system. It is essentially a network of tissues and organs that help rid the body of toxins, waste and other unwanted materials protecting you from disease by transporting infection -fighting white blood cells throughout the body. When the system gets blocked you hold onto toxins that the body does not want. Drinking plenty of water and exercise help keep your lymphatic system heathy but lymphatic drainage therapy helps move the fluids around the body and rid it of toxins quickly.

SHE Studio offers Lymphatic drainage roller treatment, Roll Slender, that delivers a 60-minute massage targeting the body in key areas. Four times more effective than a manual lymphatic massage, the Roll Slender activates the lymph system, breaks down fat tissue and tones the skin. Owner and lymphatic massage expert, Alex Martin recommended I start with two to three sessions a week for four weeks to notice a change. The treatment involves straddling and moving over the roller in various positions for a couple of minutes at a time to hit the key spots and encourage fluid to move around the body more effectively. The rollers rotate gently across the area mimicking the same technique as a massage. The treatment encompasses the whole body, massaging the back and front of your legs, tummy, arms and bum. At the same time the infrared light helps to heal your skin and muscles as well as increase collagen production to improve your skin’s strength and elasticity. My first session left me feeling a little itchy. “That’s great, it means its working” exclaimed Alex. The itching is a result of the toxins breaking down and moving about the body so its important to drink plenty of water during and after the treatment.

The lymph is connected to immunity, digestive wellbeing and even mind health. A sluggish lymphatic system can result in fatigue, poor digestion, brain fog, bloating and frequent headaches. Roll Slender treatment circulates immune cells around the body, improves the absorption of excess fluid which flushes out the toxins, helps balance your nervous system and prevents inflammation. As well as health benefits, when coupled with a healthy lifestyle it can support weight loss, reduce cellulite and tone the skin. According to Alex “The main benefits of the rollers is to stimulate the lymph nodes, distribute nutrients around the body and eliminate toxins. Regular weekly sessions can boost your over health and wellbeing.”

While lymphatic drainage therapy is big with the A-listers in Hollywood it is also nudging its way into the wellness routines of the UK’s rich and famous. Alex is discreet about her clientele but while I’m there a well know TV personality drops by to roll and I overhear another client talking about a famous singer who lives close by and regularly comes to the studio. SHE Studio is also filling the feed of the Instafamous who live in the surrounding area, with their posts and stories capturing their roll.

I was eating a balanced diet and exercising regularly while undergoing the Roll Slender course, but I noticed a change in my body shape and the texture of my skin. My tummy is a stubborn area I struggle to lose fat from but after using the roller it was visibly flatter and more toned. My bum and thighs were also less dimpled. At the end of my four-week course I had lost a total of 19 inches across my body. All I need now is a holiday to show off my new bikini bod.

To book a course of treatments or enquire about purchasing a Roll Slender contact Alex at SHE Studio.

People sport a fresh, clean look and wear pretty sundresses every spring. Changing seasons, however, mean more than just a switch in wardrobes. You’ll want to update your skin care routine with every season.

Here’s why: the change from cold to warm weather can result in a variety of skin issues. As the natural oils in your skin restore balance after the dry, cold season, you may notice a rise in oiliness, causing unsightly acne and breakouts.

So set aside those skin care habits you follow during winter and come up with a new routine.

Here are seven top tips to keep your skin looking beautiful and healthy all season long:

  1. Start Exfoliating

Exfoliation is the name of the game in this change of the season. Given that rains and extreme cold may have contributed to a long buildup of dead cells on your skin, you need to scrub your body and face at least once a week. This will get rid of all the dead skin cells, oil and dirt. A natural exfoliating scrub, such as coffee and sugar scrubs, can clear blocked pores and nourish your skin.

  1. Hydrate Your Skin at Night

Don’t forget to take care of your skin before you hit the hay. Consider applying brightening vitamin C serum to your skin. This water-based and deep-hydrating facial night serum helps minimize the appearance of fine lines and stimulate the growth of collagen.

Alternatively, you could purchase a face moisturizer that hydrates and revitalizes your skin. The important thing is that your night beauty product should renew and firm your skin. This way, you’ll wake up and start your morning with a youthful-looking and fresh face.

  1. Protect Your Skin from Sunburn

After spending your winter months bundled up in beanies, scarves, mufflers and hoodies, slathering on sun protection is necessary once the temperatures begin to rise. If your skin is still preparing itself to adjust to the warm weather, it may be unable to cope with the strong sunlight. This may result in nasty sunburns or sun damage.

Using sunscreen with a good SPF, therefore, is necessary to keep your skin protected from the sun. Remember to apply sunblock every morning. Then, reapply this product before doing any daytime outdoor activity.

  1. Take Care of Your Eyes

On top of your skin, make sure you take measures to protect your eyes during springtime. During the warmer seasons, the sun is out longer and you’ll find everything a lot brighter. This can take its toll on the delicate skin surrounding your eyes. Given that you’ll be more prone to squinting, the harmful UV rays coming from the sun can accelerate the signs of aging around your eyes.

Before you leave your house, pack a pair of sunglasses. Apart from making you look fabulous, this fashion accessory protects your eyes from the glare of the sun.

Also, use eye cream. When shopping for this beauty product, look for one with a high concentration of peptides and antioxidants. These two ingredients work to plump up the wrinkles and fine lines that have already formed around your eyes and protect against the collagen-destroying effects of UVA rays.

  1. Go Easy on the Retinol

Although this product might be popular in the skin care world, use retinol sparingly during spring. This product increases the turnover of cells, which involves getting rid of dead cells before replacing them with new ones. Unfortunately, these brand-new and fresh cells are more likely to burn when exposed to sunlight.

If you want to continue to use retinol in your skin care routine, apply this beauty product close to your bedtime during the spring and summer months.

  1. Cool off by Using Facial Mists

Springtime may cause you to sweat a lot. The first instinct of many people is to wipe away the sweat using their (probably) unwashed hands. This could introduce bacteria and oils, which can wreak havoc on your skin.

When you’re sweating, resist the temptation to use your hands. Instead, use facial mists to keep yourself cool. This product eliminates excessive sweating helps keep your skin clear of harmful bacteria.

  1. Wear Less Makeup

Although makeup can beautify your face, overdoing it can hurt your skin. Heavy and cake-on makeup can block the pores and cause breakouts.

Let your skin breathe. Ditch your liquid foundation for a light, face powder. If you are going to wear light makeup, make sure you remove them before retiring for the day.

“Spring clean” your beauty routine by following these seven suggestions. This will help you enjoy glowing and youthful skin during this new season.

Claire said, “We planned to open clinic number two in late 2019 but due to the COVID pandemic our plans were forced to ground to halt. However, it gave us time to find the perfect location and time to invest in new ground-breaking technology and treatments”.

Claire has great attention to detail and takes pride in knowing what is aesthetically pleasing to the eye. This is what makes her clinic stand out above the rest. That being said, 90% of Claire’s clients come to Amica aesthetics through recommendations from previous clients that Claire has carried out treatments for.

Amica Aesthetics is located on Street Lane and the clinic has a very different look and feel from the Cleckheaton clinic. Spanning over 2 floors, has been designed to create a luxurious but contemporary feel with patients’ comfort at the fore front of the design.

Claire added, “As a result of the pandemic and the popularity of zoom and virtual meetings people have become more aware of their facial features and how they look. As a result of this we have seen an enormous rise in demand for cosmetic procedures”.

The business has created an initial 5 new full-time jobs and appointed several highly experienced specialists in the dermatology and aesthetics field.

Amica, which is open Monday to Saturday every week, provides an extensive range of dermatology treatments and services under one roof. This includes anti-ageing injectables, laser hair removal, skin peels and fat dissolving treatments.

In addition to the 2 Leeds based clinics, Amica also hosts clinics in Newcastle, Manchester & York and now also north Leeds.

Claire added, “My short-term goal is to open a clinic in every town and city in Yorkshire with the ultimate aim being to roll out nationally”.
