We recently interviewed lockdown entrepreneur Jacqueline Elkouby to find out about her inventive hair curling hack brand that doesn’t involve heat! Tik Tok played a huge part in her decision to produce something unique, and as a result her product Heatless Hair has become a social media sensation.

Tell us about the journey that lead you to launching your brand Heatless Hair…

During the peak of the Covid-19 lockdown, there was a trend on TikTok where people were using bath robe sashes to curl their hair overnight. I decided to try it out, but I found that it didn’t give me the results that it promised. However, the idea of a heatless way to get curls inspired me. I decided to design my own Heatless Hair Hack, A ribbon made with 100% silk to produce frizz free waves. I tried my product out on my myself, friends and family with all different hair types. From there, Heatless Hair was born!

What are the benefits of using your products and what makes you different from other brands on the market?

A major benefit of using Heatless Hair is that it prevents damage to hair and saves time getting ready. My product works best while sleeping, giving my customer the perfect curls when they wake up. I source the best quality materials and use 100% silk which prevents frizz and breakage. Since I’ve launched my Curling Ribbon several other brands have emerged with their version of the product however, many of them use satin and foam, which can be damaging to the hair.

What has been the biggest learning curve since launching the business?

Heatless Hair is my very first business. I went to school to be an esthetician, and was working at a spa before the pandemic. I had never imagined that just a few months later I’d be launching my own company. I’ve had to learn how to build my own business from scratch knowing little about running a company. I’ve had to learn how to manage sourcing manufactures and materials, creating my own content, fulfilling orders, customer service, budgeting, etc. Everything I have done since day one has been a learning curve for me. I am still learning something new every day and although this has been my greatest challenge, I am loving it!

The beauty industry is fast changing, what trends do you expect to see in the next 12 months?

High quality, clean and sustainably sourced beauty products, tools, and accessories. I believe consumers are going to be more conscious of the products they are using, including toxic and damaging products. I believe that just because something is trendy, doesn’t mean it’s good for you.

What advice would you offer to anyone wanting to become an entrepreneur?

Don’t give up on what you believe in. If you truly believe in your product, others will believe in it too. Don’t be afraid of failing, just keep going and you will succeed.

Looking back since launching the brand, is there anything you would do differently?

No, I am so lucky to have grown my business as quickly as I have. I am loving every step of this process!

How would you describe your personal style?

Minimal and classic with a bit of sparkle. I love to elevate my looks with jewelry and accessories. A great pair of shoes goes a long way!

Talk us through an average day in your life…

I wake up around 7:30 am and walk my Great Dane Kingsley around the block and get coffee from my local coffee shop. Some days I go horseback riding, others I jump right into emails and filling orders. I film content, source new products and silks, and find inspiration for upcoming launches.

How much has social media played a role in the success of your brand?

Tremendously. TikTok is a great platform that helped me grow my brand along with Instagram. Creating content for social media has been essential marketing and driving business.

Our readers love to travel, what destination is at the top of your bucket list?

I love to travel too! I want to explore Greece and South Africa. Oh, and Italy I love the history and culture and of course, the food!

What is your go-to quote when lacking motivation?

“Doing what you love is never a waste of time.”

What’s next for the business?

Ideally, I would love to expand into a lifestyle brand.

What does self care mean to you?

Self care means taking care of your physical, mental, and emotional health and keeping a balance of work and play. I love my work, but it’s extremely important for me that I make time for doing the things that make me the happiest. I’m grateful that my business can be a part of other’s self care.

If you want to make an impression every time you meet someone, you need to think beyond beauty and style. Personal grooming is equally important for women who are conscious about their appearance and confidence. It is more about maintaining hygiene from head to toe. You only need to do a little extra for your body, and you end up looking good and feeling super-confident. The best part is that personal grooming does not require much time, effort, and expense, provided you are regular with it. Here are some hacks recommended by top American stylists.

Work for healthy skin

Healthy, radiant, and flawless skin can get you all the attention you deserve. While a lot depends on your genetics, you can do your bit to pamper your complexion and keep it in good health. Eating right and adequate hydration are the first steps. A regular skincare routine is also non-negotiable. Avoid alcohol, smoking, sugar, and stress to avert the signs of premature aging. Exercise and meditate to have beautiful skin naturally.

Always smell nice

A woman should always smell nice, so never skimp on your deodorants and perfumes. Body odor is repulsive and indicates complacency towards personal hygiene. Bathe twice a day and apply talc in sweaty areas. Use mild perfume or deodorant that works for you. If you have body odor issues, don’t try to cover it up with strong products because you may end up smelling worse. See a doctor and look for a treatment option.

Get rid of body hair

Body hair is perhaps the biggest woe for hygiene-conscious women. But most American ladies find it hard to keep up with regular waxing sessions at the salon. Thankfully, there are ways to get rid of body hair for good. Women in New York can check the best manhattan laser spa for permanent hair removal through laser treatment. It is safe and simple and makes you well-groomed for a lifetime.

Dress for comfort

Grooming is as much about the way you dress. Ideally, you should aspire for a perfect balance between style and comfort. Of course, you will want to look trendy but missing out on comfort deprives you of confidence. Choose outfits that go well with your body shape and fit perfectly. Ensure they are weather-appropriate as you wouldn’t want to sweat in a heavy fabric during summer. Follow the same rules for footwear.

Prioritize neat appearance

Prioritize a neat appearance if you want to look well-groomed at all times. Opt for a hairstyle that suits your personality and lifestyle, and keeps you comfortable and confident. Avoid wearing heavy makeup and let your skin breathe and radiate a natural glow. Regular manicures and pedicures are essential to keep your tips and toes clean and in shape. Always wear clean and fresh clothes every time you step out.

Personal grooming is as much about etiquette as it is about physical appearance. Pay attention to your mannerisms while speaking, eating, and everything else you do. Just a little consciousness and effort can take you a long way.

Let’s talk about the subject of makeup for men. It’s not just us women that want to look good in the 21st Century.

We are completely into the US skincare brand Heritage Store, so when the opportunity presented itself to interview the company’s Chief Marketing Officer, Maura Cannon Dick we were 100% in! Maura talks us through her career background, passion for skincare, the products she takes on holiday, and where the brand is heading in the future.

The journey that led to the launch brand Heritage Store

Skincare Brand Heritage Store

I have spent my entire career, more than 20 years in the beauty industry and I’m incredibly passionate about skincare. I was excited to join the Heritage Store brand to revive it and lead its first-ever rebrand in over 50 years. The UK will see our new packaging introduced in September and will be supported by a fully integrated marketing campaign.

After working on more traditional brands like Clinique and Origins, I was immediately drawn to Heritage Store and the brand ethos, it’s a positive self-care brand formulated with minimal plant-based clean ingredients, something I’m very passionate about. The time-tested formulas are beautifully crafted and energetically uplifting. Heritage Store has been a leader in soul-to-skin beauty since 1969. When you feel good, you look good and that’s what Heritage Store is all about.

The biggest challenge faced and how did overcome it?

My biggest challenge as CMO has been figuring out how to break through with a brand known for a small selection of hero products; mists, toner and castor oil, and discover the most engaging ways to highlight to our consumers that all of the products are efficacious and ritualistic. Good vibes, great skin (and hair!). We have a robust skincare innovation line launching this year and next which we are excited to share with everyone.

Hero Heritage Store Products

If you were to describe your business mantra in three words, what would they be?

1. Organised
2. Strategic
3. Collaborative

What advice would you offer anyone interested in venturing into the beauty and skincare industry?

Follow your passion and you will always succeed. I have loved skincare since I was a young teenager so working in the space has come naturally to me. Immerse yourself in the category by reading trade publications, always trying different products, reading product reviews, following brands you like on social media and checking out in-store experiences. I’m constantly doing all of the above to glean ways to strengthen the Heritage Store brand.

Talk us through an average business day in your life

These days it’s mostly video calls all day long! I’m constantly collaborating cross functionally with my teams; creative, copy, digital, social, product, innovation, operations and finance. My team is half remote and half in Salt Lake City, UT so we all come together once a month at our corporate headquarters in Utah with beautiful views of the Wasatch Mountains. It’s important to do this for team morale and creativity. Being so close to nature and the mountains is energising.

What do you do to stay positive?

Every day I focus my energy on the biggest opportunities and don’t get caught up in too many details or things that could or do go wrong. I approach every meeting with my team as a fresh start, despite challenging days. And I spritz Rosewater to refresh my skin and mood whenever I need a pick me up.

What is your go-to quote when lacking motivation?

I love this quote by Maya Angelou:

“My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humour, and some style.”

Social media play a role in the success of your brand.

Social Media has been HUGE in the US and it’s building now in the UK! Please follow us @heritagestorenaturalsuk – can’t help a shameless plug as we grow our following in the UK. How do you want people to feel when they first see and try Heritage Store products?

I want people to feel happy when they see our new packaging and curious to try a refreshing Rosewater spritz. It will immediately elevate mood and create positive vibes.

Our readers love to travel, what destination is at the top of your bucket list, and which of your products would you take travelling with you?

I will be spending time on Nantucket Island this summer off the coast of Massachusetts. I’ll certainly have my Rosewater spray handy to refresh my skin and hair after a bike ride or while at the beach. I also can’t live without my 2 oz Castor Oil mini bottle to use on my brows each evening. And of course I’ll have my new soothing Rosewater Regimen in my toiletry case Milky Cleanser, Toner and Moisturiser, coming to the UK in September.

With the sunshine so rare this wet and oh-too-British summer, our girl Hannah Tan-Gillies ventured into bustling Fitzrovia to get her glow on at Glow Bar London.

Glow Bar is all about modern beauty and wellness. Founded by Sasha Sabapathy, Glow Bar’s ethos is focused on using natural remedies to help women deal with stress and improve their physical, mental and even sexual health. Glow Bar puts equal value on outer and inneer beauty, which is a philosophy we can definitely get behind.

Glow Bar London is a wellness buff’s dream. Upstairs it is a pastel-tinted café serving everything from adaptogen-spiked lattes to CBD tonics. And while you could easily get lost browsing Glow Bar London’s stylish array of crystals, powders and elixirs, don’t neglect to venture downstairs too. Because, underneath the café, Glow Bar offers a fully-kitted spa, complete with Chroma therapy-equipped infrared sauna pods.

The sauna experience is totally private, perfect for COVID-era relaxation. Each session lasts 45 minutes, starting at 60* and ending at around 70*. Don’t feel like you have to finish the whole session though, because believe me, it gets hot and quick too.

Infrared heat therapy has been proven to increase circulation, detoxification and boost the immune system. Not to mention, it’s a great way to spend some time for introspection and meditation, completely away from the hustle and bustle of daily life.

Saunas also release endorphins, reduce stress, and stimulates collagen – making you literally glow the moment you finish your session.

After 35 minutes of calm (and plenty of sweat), I too felt completely relaxed and ready to take on the week ahead. My skin was literally glowing and I feel lighter, calmer, and blissfully relaxed. I even treated myself to an adaptogen-infused latte, and honestly, I haven’t slept better than since before COVID kicked off.

So, whether you’re looking to improve your mood, enhance your circulation, or just find 45 minutes of peace and quiet, we highly we recommend booking your own sauna sesh at Glow Bar London, so you too can glow baby glow.

For anyone with long hair, it can be somewhat of a challenge to find a hairstyle that is not only easy to do but that looks good also. After all, no one wants to wear their hair down every single day. Whilst ponytails do look good and are easy to do, after a while you can get bored of having one and feel like it is time to try something else.

This is where hair sticks come in useful as they allow you to quickly and easily create beautiful styles with your long hair.

What are hair sticks?

The name kind of gives it away. Hair sticks are a thin but strong piece of material that are used by people with long hair to create different hairstyles and hold their hair into place in a certain position. Although they vary in size, hair sticks usually measure around 20 cm (8 inches) in length or shorter.

Although most people with long hair tend to use bobby pins and hair bobbles in order to get the desired outcome with their hair that they want, doing it with hair sticks creates a much better effect – that is once you know how to use them of course.

How to use hair sticks

When wearing your hair in a bun with a hair stick, you need to first get all of your hair into your less dominant hand and hold it in place with your index finger and thumb. Using your dominant hand, grab the hair from below and flip the hair over your less dominant hand. Ensure that the hair goes all the way round so that it is completely wrapped around your less dominant hand. Continue to wrap your hair around the base of it, until you reach the point that there is no more hair to wrap.

At this point, you should take your hand out of the loop of hair and pull the loop right over the knot of hair that is in the middle. Using a hair stick, direct it through the middle and over the loop. Your hair can be taken up from your scalp. However, if you do not want to tug away at your roots then you do not have to do it like this.

If your hair is not quite long enough for this type of bun, then try it with a smaller loop instead. Rather than wrapping the hair around your less dominant hand, do it around a couple of your fingers instead. Doing it this way creates a smaller loopr and so requires much less hair.

Types of hair sticks

There are various types of hair sticks currently available for purchase on the market. The ones that you use pretty comes down to your own personal preference on what you like the look of. Some of the most common types include Japanese hair sticks, Asian hair sticks, wooden hair sticks, Korean hair sticks, metal hair sticks, and plastic hair sticks. Similar to these are hair forks.

Why you should use hair sticks

The types of hair styles that you are able to create by using hair sticks are much more gentle on your hair than what many traditional hair styles are, such as ponytails. This is because using hair sticks allows you to distribute the hair more evenly, whilst also putting very little friction on the hair. This results in much less breakage – showing just how good they are for your hair.

With hair sticks you are able to quickly and fairly easily create really good looking hair styles that mean you can get ready in an instant. Simply put in the hair sticks, create a hair style, and off you go.

Because hair sticks are better at distributing the weight of your hair right across all parts of your head, it stops the roots of your hair being subject to too much tugging and pulling, which is effective in not only stopping your hair from falling out but also in preventing you from experiencing headaches. This is good news for anyone that suffers with headaches from wearing their hair up as these can be very painful and last for a long time.

Thanks to using hair sticks, you will never experience a bad hair day again for as long as you live. This is because with them you can quickly and easily create a hair style for any occasion. So the next time that you wake up in the morning and your hair is all over the place and you do not know where to even start with taming it, simply reach for some hair sticks and create a beautiful hair style.

You are able to create all of these wonderful hair styles even if you have not yet managed to purchase hair sticks from sayadesigns.com, this is because lots of things that you are able to find around your house can actually be used for this purpose. Practically any object that is both long and thin, such as a pencil or a pen, can double up as a hair stick. This means that even when you are somewhere that has no hair sticks, you are still able to create a beautiful hair style with a bit of improvisation.

By using hair sticks, you are able to create beautiful looking hair styles with actually very little effort and all within the space of just a few minutes. However, the finished article will look like something that took your hours to create. This is true no matter how long or short (they do not work on a buzz cut) your hair is. Of course though, the longer that your hair is, the more different types of hair styles that you are able to create with hair sticks. Because they are universal, you only need one set of hair sticks to last you the entire time that your hair grows out, meaning that they are economical and also more environmentally friendly as you do not have to get rid of them at any point.

Clear braces are extremely effective and are used by many people of all ages all over the world. They are extremely comfortable, easy to wear, and are great at straightening and correcting uneven teeth. If you are looking to get straighter teeth easily and without the hassle of getting a metal brace, then clear braces might be a great option for you. Here are the steps involve in getting clear braces.

Consult your dentist

The first step you should take when getting clear braces is to consult your dentist to see if clear braces are suitable for you and your teeth. Clear braces straighten your teeth without being noticeable. These innovative solutions can even help you to deal with orthodontic issues, such as overbites. Consulting your dentist will allow you to see if the treatment will provide you with the results that you want.

Decide on a treatment plan

Once you have consulted your dentist and they have decided that clear braces will work for you, they will recommend a treatment plan for you. This will include how many clear braces aligners you will have and how long you will wear them for. To create these clear aligners, your dentist will take a mould of your teeth, taking measurements of the size and the shape of your teeth. They will then use a transparent plastic to form the aligner based off the mould of your teeth. Because these aligners are made specifically for your teeth, they will be extremely comfortable and easy for you to wear. Deciding on a treatment plan for clean aligners comes down to a lot of factors such as cost and time. It is important to do research to fully understand what a clear aligner will require from you and how long it will require this from you. For more information, consider this helpful guide on clear aligners from Smile Prep.

Wear your clear braces

Once your dentist has created the clear plastic aligners it is time for you to start wearing them. These clear braces may feel a little bit tight at first but after a short while they will start to become more comfortable, and you won’t even notice them on your teeth. Your dentist will provide you with details of how long you should wear each clear aligner for and when you should switch it out for a new one. This will ensure that the clear braces do an effective job at straightening your teeth. While wearing your clear braces it is important that you take good care of them and keep them clean. It can be easy for clear braces to become discoloured or even stained, depending on the food and drink that you consume, but cleaning them regularly will prevent this from happening.

Revisit your dentist

When you wear clear braces, it is recommended that you visit you r dentist every couple of weeks for regular check-ups. During these check-ups it will allow your dentist to see how effective the clear braces have been at straightening out your teeth. They will also be able to adjust the braces if need be and provide you with any help that you may need.

Now that you are aware of the simple steps that are involved in getting clear braces, you’ll be one step closer to geting your perfect teeth.

Dry skin and flakiness cause the skin to be more sensitive to sunlight and skin care products. Though the effects of dry skin are mostly seen on the arms, legs, and hands, they can appear on other parts of the body as well. Dry skin is mostly caused by excessive washing, use of hard water, exposure to irritants, genetics, and medical conditions such as diabetes and hypothyroidism. It can also be caused by vitamin B deficiency.

If you have dry skin, you know how uncomfortable it feels and how challenging it can be to manage it. However, the easiest way to manage dry skin is by using klavuu skincare products that are used for this type of skin. Knowing the skin care ingredients to use on dry skin can also help reduce the scaly, tight, and flaky feeling that’s associated with dry skin.

To help you out, below are five ingredients that are present in products specifically for dry skin:

  1. Squalane

This skin care ingredient differs slightly from squalene, which is the natural compound that’s made in the sebaceous glands of the skin. The sebaceous glands are responsible for producing sebum. This is the oil that moisturizes the skin and protects it. Sebum also gives the skin a greasy feeling.

Squalane differs from sebum in the sense that it’s light on the skin and serves as an emollient. This means it absorbs into the skin easily, which makes it an ideal ingredient for skin care products that moisturize dry skin.

  1. Glycerin

Dry skin requires intense moisturization. One of the ingredients that helps with this is glycerin.

As a humectant, glycerin draws in water. When applied to dry skin, this ingredient draws water to the skin, hydrating it effectively.

  1. Lactic Acid

Often, ingredients such as lactic acid, polyhydroxy acids, and glycolic acid are considered to be exfoliants that remove dead cells from the skin. While this is true, these ingredients also act as humectants because they help retain water in the skin.

Lactic acid, naturally found in dairy products has gentle hydrating and exfoliating properties. This is why goat milk is commonly used in skincare products due to its AHA ingredient and balanced PH levels. Natural goat milk soaps gently remove the top layers of dead skin, balance your skin tone leaving it glowing and more youthful.

Though lactic acid can help hydrate the skin, it’s advisable to use it in skin care products as opposed to using it as the primary humectant. This is because it can cause skin irritation.

  1. Ceramides

This ingredient forms a critical part of the skin’s protective barrier, which is known as the stratum corneum. Since ceramides are present between the skin cells, they can help seal the barrier. By doing this, they prevent potential irritants from getting into the skin, maintaining hydration.

Skin conditions like eczema experience functionality issues with the protective barrier. As such, ceramides are used to develop skin care products for this condition.

  1. Stearyl And Cetyl Alcohol

Generally, alcohol is viewed as an ingredient that causes stinging and dryness on the skin. While this is true, not all types of alcohol have this effect. Fatty alcohols, such as stearyl and cetyl, have a moisturizing effect on dry skin. These two ingredients occur naturally in the moisture barrier of the skin and are highly effective at preventing water loss.

Even so, most fatty alcohols that are used in skin care products are extracted from vegetable or plant oils.

  1. Hyaluronic Acid

This skin care ingredient is highly effective at keeping the skin hydrated by holding water in the skin. Hyaluronic acid is commonly used in skin care products. It’s also recommended by dermatologists for dry skin types that need dehydration.

Since hyaluronic acid occurs naturally in the human body, using products that contain this ingredient rarely causes irritation. If you have sensitive skin, you should find products that contain hyaluronic acid comfortable to use. Still, it’s best to consider patch testing them so you can determine whether your skin reacts to other ingredients that may be present in the product.

  1. Aloe Vera

People who have sensitive skin occasionally experience facial rashes. If this is the case, then note that Aloe Vera can help soothe the skin. Over the years, this ingredient has been used in skin care products to relieve dry skin from irritation.

Aloe Vera gel contains high amounts of vitamins, minerals, water, and other ingredients that support skin health. To keep your skin well-hydrated skin, opt for skin products that contain Aloe Vera.

Final Thoughts

There are numerous skin care products in the market. However, each product is developed for a specific type of skin. If you have dry skin, considering alternative options like goat milk soap vs regular soap might be beneficial in your skincare routine. If you have dry skin, the most effective way of finding a product that keeps your skin hydrated and moisturized is to know the ingredients that are best for this skin type. When you go shopping for skin care products for dry skin, look for the ingredients discussed above.

In addition to using products directly on your skin, you can also take vitamins and supplements to help you avoid the risk of any deficiencies you may have.
This was recently covered in a post talking with Naked Nutrition founder, Stephen, where he talked about the importance of nutrition from a performance point of view.

It’s important to note that proper nutrition is not just important for athletic performance, it is critical for every single person.
The best way to get your nutrient demands met is by having a healthy, balanced diet from food. After that, using supplements can help.
There are thousands of different supplements available to purchase so it can be very hard to know what to take. The key is to look at the ingredients list and check out reviews online of real people taking them who have had real experience with how they make them feel.
Always make sure you trust the person writing the review, look at their credentials and their motivations for writing the review. Then it’s a case of trying it out to see how it works for you.
