Fishers Gin combines rare old English herbs and botanicals found along the Suffolk coast. Our botanist, James Firth, having studied Botany at Oxford University has dedicated his life to England’s plants and their environments. As a botanist, he scoured historical manuscripts researching the recipes of medieval herbalists in order to revive ingredients and tastes for Fishers, many of which had long since passed from memory. Fishers Gin reflects a passion for nature and research, capturing some of the wild and forgotten flavours of the English coastline.

Fishers is a natural expression of the English coast.

Here, we go behind the brand to find out more…

When did you launch the brand and what was the reason behind it?

We launched in June 2016. My family has been involved in the drinks industry for over 100 years, so I wanted to veer away slightly and create my own project. So with the help of our botanist, James Firth, we created Fishers, which is an expression of the Suffolk Coastline where I grew up.

We launched in June 2016. At its most basic I wanted to create a spirit that was made up of different elements of the Suffolk Coastline, an incredible place and where I grew up.

What’s your background?

After University I worked in the City, but quickly realised I wanted to break away and do my own thing.

If you could start over with the business, would you do anything differently?

Of course! If I said no, then I wouldn’t be a very competent businessman. Mistakes can be the best way of making sure you learn and are able to progress.

What is the hardest challenge you have faced since you started the company?

The hardest thing we face is the competition of the Gin industry. Gin sales will top £1 bn in the UK this year. That means a lots of different gins. However, there are definitely positives to be taken

N from it. higher competition in an industry leads to better products as there is no room for error.

Tell us one fact about you that people wouldn’t know.

I can only drive an automatic

Where do you plan on taking the brand?

We aim to be the British premium up-sell. The first one you think of when you feel like treating yourself at the bar

To date, what has been the highlight since launching?

Seeing the sales double this year month on month when compared to last. It means we have a great team selling a fantastic product

Which city do you feel most at home in, London, Paris or New York?

London, as I went to school here, and its where I primarily live now. However my fiancée is Parisian, so I love spending time there when I can,

Best thing about London to you?

The eccentricity of almost everything. Barring the high-street chains, London is unique and absorbing, and every nook and cranny has its own story.

Favourite song?

Mykonos – Fleet Foxes

Best place for a coffee?

The Booking Office – St Pancras. A totally unique and exciting place to be.

Most memorable piece of advice given to you?

Hire slow, fire fast

Guilty pleasure?

Good cheese

If you could spend 24 hours anywhere in the world, where would it be?

Iceland, because there is nowhere quite like it. And I am desperate to see Aurora Borealis
