When did you launch the brand and what was the reason behind it?
We launched in the beginning of March 2015. The reason behind setting up Contour was I felt there was a gap in the market for my palette. We have produced a luxury cream palette for contouring whereas most are powder. Not only that but the set is multi-use, it can be used as a concealer (the coverage is amazing!) and an everyday cream bronzer too.
Whats your background?
I own a digital marketing agency called Sweetheart Marketing. I worked with other brands and over time learnt the recipe behind creating a strong brand and successful marketing campaign. These skills have then been applied to Contour. Make-up has always been something I have been passionate about. I use to scribble logos into my notebook when I was at University of how my makeup brand would look. It’s strange that I now actually have my own cosmetics brand!
If you could start over with the business, would you do anything differently?
No, I think the journey you go on producing a product from scratch, branding it and launching it, teaches you so many lessons, for all my mistakes, I have learnt so much. I wouldn’t change a thing.
What is the hardest challenge you have faced since you started the company?
Lack of hours in a day! You want to do everything all at once. I have learnt that things don’t happen overnight and I only have so many hours in a day. I have never been very patient!
Tell us one fact about you that people wouldn’t know?
I talk to myself all the time!
To date, what has been the highlight since launching?
My favorite feeling is when a customer shares a picture of them wearing our makeup and tells us how much they love it- that will never get old!
Which city do you feel most at home in, London, Paris or New York?
London, I don’t think there is anywhere better in the summer than London town
Three beauty products you can’t leave the house without?
Contour Cosmetics contour set-obviously! I love estee lauder double wear foundation too and Lancome mascaras are brilliant.
To be comfortable and confident in whatever you wear- that’s what makes an outfit look stylish.
Best thing about London to you?
London to me has a buzz about it, from the moment you arrive. I love the adventures I have when I go to London, anything can happen!
Statement shoe or statement bag?
Bag, always! I am obsessed with nice bags, just holding a nice bag makes me feel powerful
If you had to, what piece of clothing from your wardrobe would you wear every day?
Honestly, my All Saints sweatpants! I love being comfy.
Favourite love song?
It would have to be a Beyonce or Whitney- don’t make me pick!
Best place for a coffee?
I drink tea, my favorite place would be round at my Mums house- fresh out of the tea pot!
Most memorable piece of advice given to you?
My Dad is my business partner and he has always said ‘just concentrate on what you’re doing, the only person you are always trying to get better than, was the person you were last week’.
I have too many! Nutella is certainly one and cheese, lots of cheese-on anything!
If you could spent 24 hours in anywhere in the world, where would it be?
I really want to see Bora Bora, it looks beautiful so I would have to say there
In future, how do you plan on expanding the company?
We are launching more products this year which we are very excited about. We have so much scope and so many ideas for products, we are excited about expanding our range.
